Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Human Resources Generalist to support a mission-driven nonprofit organization in San Antonio, Texas. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for an HR specialist who can balance employee support, recruiting, compliance, and day-to-day HR operations in a fast-paced environment. The person in this role will work closely with managers and employees across varying schedules to strengthen workplace practices, maintain compliance, and contribute to a positive employee experience.
Responsibilities:
• Act as the primary HR resource for managers and employees within the assigned business group, delivering consistent guidance and support across daytime, evening, overnight, and weekend schedules.
• Lead prompt and impartial reviews of employee concerns, document findings thoroughly, and recommend appropriate next steps based on policy and employment regulations.
• Guide supervisors through performance coaching, corrective action, and improvement planning while ensuring documentation is complete and aligned with legal and organizational standards.
• Oversee leave administration for assigned teams, including accommodation requests, personal leave matters, and short-term disability coordination, while helping maintain operational coverage.
• Manage full-cycle recruitment activities, from creating compelling postings and sourcing talent through community and workforce channels to coordinating interviews and onboarding new hires.
• Facilitate orientation and deliver employee training on topics such as workplace policies, harassment prevention, safety practices, and other core HR programs.
• Provide frontline support on compensation, benefits, payroll-related questions, and timekeeping issues in partnership with internal HR specialists.
• Maintain accurate employee records, monitor completion of required compliance activities, and prepare documentation needed for audits and reporting.
• Partner with leaders on performance review cycles, track completion milestones, and elevate concerns or delays that require additional HR attention.
• Identify engagement trends, workforce concerns, and development opportunities, then share recommendations that support morale, recognition, and team effectiveness.• 3+ years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist or closely related HR role.
• Demonstrated background in employee relations, HR administration, onboarding, and benefits support.
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR compliance practices.
• Experience using HRIS platforms, HR software, and Microsoft Excel for tracking, reporting, and record management.
• Ability to manage investigations, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive employee matters with sound judgment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; Spanish language skills are a plus.
• Certification such as PHR or SPHR is preferred.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to support multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
