GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for preparation and processing of general journal entries and general ledger reports for the hospital. Supervise the overall accounts payable process for the organization. Perform utilization and cost studies for various departments. Prepare audit work papers as assigned. Perform other accounting and reporting projects as assigned.
ROLE DESCRIPTION: The Accountant is responsible for reconciliation of general ledger accounts, managing of assets purchased, the financial records of Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. She/he is a support system to managers. This position is unique in that the Accountant has the ability to assist managers in all areas of their financials including how all revenue and expenses are posted to their department. Customer service skills are important as she/he deals with all hospital departments and third party consultants. Work performed on the audit, budget, and Medicare cost report is imperative in maintaining the hospital’s licensure and financial well-being. The facility relies on accurate financial information so it can make fiscally responsible decisions on how best to provide the needed services to the patients and communities it serves.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Minimum of Associate of Arts Degree with emphasis in accounting. Bachelors degree in accounting preferred. Significant accounting experience may be substituted for education requirements.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year accounting experience preferred. Additional consideration will be given for healthcare accounting experience.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Attentiveness to details. Ability to work with deadlines. Willingness to work in/with team-oriented environment. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Multiview, and Adobe Acrobat preferred. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an effective manner.
PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE DEMANDS:
Sitting to complete various tasks, including computer projects, approximately six (6) to nine (9) hours per day. Able to transport self throughout building to deliver or gather information. Able to communicate in fluent English. Ability to use computer, telephone, calculator and other office equipment, with correction.
WORKING CONDITIONS/EQUIPMENT:
Free from hazardous working conditions. Pleasant office environment. Computer and ten-key skills required. Operation of other office equipment including automated check signature machine, and copier/scanner are also necessary.
