DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Accounting Duties:
- Oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including managing accounting staff and ensuring accurate and timely reporting of financial information.
- Prepare daily journal entries necessary to complete financial statements and other reports.
- Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and maintain working papers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
- Oversee the preparation and review of annual audit information and supporting documents.
- Develop and implement efficient accounting processes and procedures to streamline operations.
- Perform other duties as required.
Financial Reporting Duties:
- Prepare and review consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal procedures for corporate entities.
- Prepare and analyze working papers for corporate entities, ensuring that financial information provided is timely and relevant for effective decision-making.
- Oversee the preparation of working papers and backup for the external audit process.
- Manage the preparation, submission, and reconciliation of commodity tax filings (GST/HST/PST) and other tax-related matters.
- Collaborate with external auditors during audits, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
- Ensure that appropriate and adequate internal controls over financial reporting are in place and operating efficiently and effectively.
- Analyze accounting systems used to look for inaccuracies and potential improvements, recommending and implementing enhancements as necessary.
- Work closely with the Senior Management Team and Department Leads to assess financial status, identify methods for cost reduction, and implement efficiency improvements.
- Understand and adhere to all financial and accounting regulations and legislation, ensuring company compliance.
Leadership & Team Management:
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team, providing training and performance feedback to ensure a high level of accuracy and efficiency in the department.
- Set objectives and goals for the accounting team, ensuring alignment with company objectives and providing guidance on achieving these goals.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, promoting continuous learning and professional development.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial data and to support cross-functional projects.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in accounts payable and receivable roles, with a strong understanding of accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
