Job Title: Shipping and Receiving SpecialistJob DescriptionThe Shipping and Receiving Specialist performs a blend of manual and clerical duties to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant movement of materials into and out of a manufacturing facility. This role uses computer and MRP systems to track, log, verify, and report shipments, while following established shipping practices, transportation routing, schedules, and related requirements. The specialist prepares, packages, verifies, and documents materials for both flight and non-flight use, maintains accurate records, and supports quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities- Perform manual and clerical shipping and receiving duties in a manufacturing environment.
- Use computer and MRP systems to track, log, verify, and report shipping and receiving transactions.
- Follow established shipping practices, procedures, transportation routing, schedules, and related requirements.
- Receive incoming materials, including finished products, raw stock, assemblies, parts, building materials, office supplies, and equipment.
- Prepare materials, parts, kits, and flight-packaged components for shipment according to product and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare non-flight goods for shipment, ensuring appropriate packaging and labeling.
- Pack and unpack or wrap and unwrap a variety of finished products and materials as required.
- Verify quantity, weight, and material conformance to stated identifications and documentation.
- Log receipts into the system and process freight bills, packing sheets, and related documents.
- Prepare and verify shipping paperwork, including documentation, packaging conformance to product requirements, shipper manifests, and bills of lading.
- Report materials shipped and maintain accurate bills of lading records.
- Post weight and shipping charges and route goods according to established procedures.
- Load and unload delivery trucks, verifying package and parts counts, checking for damage, confirming completeness of paperwork, and ensuring proper disposal of spent packaging materials.
- Complete detailed shipping and receiving reports and maintain accurate records in the MRP and inventory systems.
- Support audits, lean initiatives, and quality improvement activities as required.
- Familiarize oneself with internal processes and procedures, including applicable MRP, Inventory System, and Business Quality Management System (BQMS) procedures.
- Understand local manufacturing processes and how shipping and receiving interacts with upstream and downstream functions.
- Maintain staging areas, packaging areas, and loading docks in a clean, orderly, and safe manner.
- Operate or be prepared to operate forklifts and pickers once certified, handling materials safely and efficiently.
- Serve occasionally as a backup driver when needed to support logistics operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support shipping, receiving, inventory, and logistics activities.
Essential Skills- Experience in shipping and receiving operations in a manufacturing or similar environment.
- Hands-on experience with inventory management and material handling.
- Proficiency with computerized MRP, inventory, and shipping and receiving systems, including the ability to query, monitor, and input data accurately.
- Knowledge of shipping practices, procedures, and transportation routing and scheduling requirements.
- Ability to prepare flight-packaged parts, kits, and materials for shipment in accordance with product requirements.
- Ability to prepare non-flight goods for shipment using appropriate packaging methods.
- Experience with international shipping and hazardous shipping procedures.
- Strong attention to detail when verifying quantities, weights, material identifications, and documentation.
- Blueprint reading skills to interpret product and packaging requirements.
- Basic math skills to verify counts, weights, and shipping data.
- Good computer skills, including data entry and system navigation in MRP or inventory systems.
- Ability to complete shipping and receiving reports and maintain accurate records.
- Capability to be certified and safely operate a forklift and picker.
- Physical ability to load and unload delivery trucks and handle materials safely.
- Ability to maintain work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
