SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for supporting physicians and clinical staff in providing high-quality patient care in a primary care setting. Responsibilities include greeting and rooming patients, recording vital signs, updating medical histories, assisting with examinations and procedures, managing referrals, and maintaining accurate electronic health records. The Medical Assistant also supports front-office tasks such as scheduling, patient communication, and coordination of care, while ensuring compliance with clinical protocols and patient confidentiality standards. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet and prepare patients for visits per MMC protocol by obtaining information such as vital signs, medical history, medication reconciliation, allergies, etc.
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and proper equipment availability.
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, diagnostic testing and minor procedures while ensuring comfort and safety.
- Administer injections, immunizations, and medications as directed by the provider.
- Perform point-of-care testing, EKGs, spirometry, and other clinical tasks per training.
- Essure accurate entry of charges and coding support for billing purposes.
- Provide patient education on treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care.
- Accurately document patient information in the EHR.
- Follow infection control and OSHA standards, including proper use of PPE.
- Assist with specimen collection, labeling, and processing for lab testing.
- Provide medical administrative support, including scheduling appointments, managing patient records, faxes, patient calls/messages per protocol.
- Support care coordination by assisting with referrals, authorizations, and prescription refills.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- One-year certificate from college or technical school, six months to one year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certificates, licenses and registrations required:
- Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited program preferred.
- Experience in a clinical setting is highly desirable; familiarity with medical practice is a plus.
- Proficiency in performing administrative task related to patient care management.
- Knowledge of basic life support techniques and emergency response protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients of all ages.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are essential for maintaining accurate records and managing multiple task.
- A commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the medical field.
- Proficiency in front desk operations with experience in customer support roles
- Employees may be required to work 1 Saturday rotation per month.
