About the Company:
The Director of Payroll is a strategic leader who is responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll operations. This role involves collaborating with senior leadership to define strategic objectives that align with business goals and ensure the team delivers accurate and timely payroll services across multiple states. This includes managing payroll for both hourly and salaried team members, including union and non-union. The Director of Payroll provides leadership to the Payroll team, manages vendor relationships, and recommends technology solutions to enhance efficiency. This role is a key partner to the HR business partner, HR systems, compensation, and benefits teams.
The ideal candidate for this position will have significant leadership responsibility over the identification, selection, and implementation process for new HCM and payroll systems.
- Responsibilities:
- Partners with senior leadership to determine and set the strategic direction of the payroll team, including defining and setting key objectives that align with the team and business goals.
- Oversees all aspects of payroll processing operations, including multi-state (US) weekly and bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried team members, both union and non-union.
- Provides leadership and direction to the payroll team by developing a high-performing team culture, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
- Manages relationships with third-party vendors for payroll processing, payroll tax filings, garnishments/child support, unemployment claim management, and verification of employment services.
- Monitors and assesses trends, identifying opportunities, and implements industry-leading practices and strategies to enhance payroll services and the customer experience.
- Responsible for ensuring all aspects of union updates, reporting, payment of fringes, and audits are accurate and completed timely.
- Evaluates, implements, and manages payroll systems and technology solutions to streamline processes, enhance efficiency and improve accuracy. Stays informed about advancements in payroll technology and recommended enhancements as needed.
- Qualifications:
- 6+ years in Payroll and/or Tax Manager role
- Bachelors degree preferred in Accounting/Finance
- Knowledge of union and non union payroll processes, contracts, negotiations, etc.
- Multi-state payroll experience
- Construction, automotive, manufacturing industry preferred but not required
- Experience in system implementations is strongly preferred.
