Robert Half is partnering with a mid-sized law firm located in the heart of New York City, known for our commitment to excellence and client service. With a dynamic team of legal professionals, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our finance team. This role is critical in ensuring the financial health and accuracy of our firm's operations.
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing the firm’s financial processes, including the month-end close process, payroll, and oversee accounts payable. This position will report to the Controller and oversee one individual. This position requires a detail-oriented and experienced professional with a strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to manage multiple financial functions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Month-End Close:
- Lead the month-end close process, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports for management review.
General Accounting:
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Support annual audit processes by providing necessary documentation and information.
Payroll Management:
- Oversee and manage the full payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payment to all employees.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Handle payroll reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies.
Accounts Payable (AP):
- Manage the accounts payable process, including invoice processing, payment runs, and vendor management.
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of all firm obligations.
- Perform AP reconciliations and maintain proper documentation for audit purposes.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting function and implement best practices.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Strong experience with payroll management and accounts payable.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and month-end close processes.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
