Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description
The Maintenance Technician builds, maintains, and repairs production machinery and mechanical systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation in a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on troubleshooting equipment issues, performing preventive maintenance, supporting production changeovers, and carrying out emergency repairs across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and HVAC systems.
Responsibilities
- Build and assemble machines and mechanical components according to specified requirements.
- Troubleshoot reported equipment problems and resolve them in a timely and effective manner.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on a variety of machines and devices to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Detect malfunctions through careful observation, including sound and visual inspection of machinery.
- Run diagnostic tests to verify system functionality and identify root causes of issues.
- Repair broken or faulty machine parts and restore equipment to proper operating condition.
- Assist production staff with machine changeovers, adjustments, and setups as needed to support manufacturing schedules.
- Clean machinery components and apply appropriate lubricants to ensure smooth and reliable operation.
- Perform emergency repairs, including structural, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work, to keep facilities and equipment operational.
- Read and interpret operating manuals, mechanical and electrical blueprints, and drawings to guide maintenance and repair activities.
- Use various hand and power tools, as well as precision measurement tools, safely and accurately.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations and adhere to basic OSHA and food safety practices.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment in and around all equipment and work areas.
- Collaborate effectively in a team setting and communicate clearly with production and leadership.
- Document work performed and use basic computer applications to support maintenance activities.
Essential Skills
- Previous experience as a maintenance mechanic, maintenance technician, or in a similar industrial maintenance role.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Hands-on experience with industrial equipment maintenance and repair, including preventive maintenance.
- Ability to perform PLC troubleshooting and basic electrical troubleshooting using schematics and diagrams.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate lift trucks, platform lifts, and articulating boom lifts.
- Ability to read and understand operating manuals, mechanical and electrical blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Aptitude in using hand and power tools such as wrenches, pliers, and hand drills, as well as precision measurement tools like calipers.
- Excellent knowledge of machinery, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and their components.
- Basic knowledge of OSHA and food safety regulations (preferred).
- Ability to stand for long periods, work in confined spaces, and lift heavy loads exceeding 50 lbs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong observational and analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a food manufacturing or similar industrial production environment.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and documentation practices.
- Comfort working across multiple systems, including structural, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC during emergency repairs.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe and clean workplace.
- Willingness to train on day shift and transition to a 12-hour schedule as needed.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
