Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description
The Maintenance Technician installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in a commercial or industrial environment. This role also operates machine tools and assembles parts to fabricate tools, mechanisms, and machines that support both experimental projects and production operations. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, precision machining capability, and the ability to troubleshoot complex automated systems, including programmable logic controllers.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and test machinery and equipment regularly to verify proper operation and identify potential issues before failures occur.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions by listening for unusual sounds, observing machine performance, and consulting with supervisors or other maintenance personnel.
- Dismantle defective machines and equipment safely and efficiently, and install new or repaired parts to restore proper function.
- Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other moving machine components to reduce wear and extend equipment life.
- Install and repair electrical apparatus, including transformers, wiring, and electronic components, in accordance with applicable codes and safety standards.
- Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment used in production and facility operations.
- Repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and other related equipment to maintain accurate and reliable system performance.
- Install, program, and repair automated machinery and equipment to support efficient and reliable production processes.
- Troubleshoot, repair, install, and program Omron PLCs to resolve automation issues and implement control changes as needed.
- Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, grinders, drills, and milling machines to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, and tools.
- Operate cutting torches and welding equipment to cut or join metal parts as part of repair, modification, or fabrication tasks.
- Consult with engineers and other technical personnel regarding equipment design, capacity, and purpose to ensure proper application and performance.
- Analyze specifications, drawings, sketches, and written instructions to plan layouts, determine materials, and define the sequence of operations for maintenance or fabrication work.
- Design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to support special engineering needs and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Verify that machined parts conform to specifications by using appropriate measurement tools and inspection techniques.
- Install parts and materials such as sheet metal, hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, lubricants, and batteries to complete equipment installations or repairs.
- Recommend changes to equipment, processes, or layouts to improve efficiency, reliability, and adaptability as part of ongoing Kaizen and continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain and troubleshoot machining tools and related equipment to minimize downtime and ensure consistent performance.
- Perform basic welding tasks when needed to support maintenance repairs and fabrication projects.
- Document work performed through routine reports and maintenance records, and communicate status updates clearly to supervisors and team members.
- Follow all safety rules, operating procedures, and maintenance instructions to maintain a safe work environment and protect equipment and personnel.
Essential Skills
- Proven ability to install, maintain, and repair industrial machinery, equipment, and facility systems in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Hands-on experience inspecting, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to operate milling machines, lathes, and surface grinders accurately for precision machining tasks.
- Strong understanding of tolerances, precision measurements, and verification of machined parts to specifications.
- Demonstrated skill in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Experience setting up and operating machine tools, including lathes, grinders, drills, and milling machines.
- Ability to install and repair electrical apparatus such as transformers, wiring, and electronic components.
- Capability to lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting, installing, and programming Omron PLCs for automated machinery and equipment.
