Job Description
This role operates high-speed filling and packaging equipment in a food manufacturing environment on a 3rd shift schedule. You set up, run, and adjust processing machines, perform minor mechanical repairs, and support production and packaging at the end of the line while maintaining strict quality and food safety standards. The position follows a 2/2/3 rotating schedule with 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. hours on B Team, and you may train on various shifts before moving into your regular schedule.
Responsibilities
- Operate filling and packaging equipment safely and efficiently to meet production targets.
- Complete daily and weekly preventative maintenance tasks on assigned machinery.
- Adjust and align all primary machine functions to ensure proper filling, packaging, and throughput.
- Perform minor mechanical repairs and replace certain defective parts to keep equipment running.
- Set up jobs on machines by feeding containers onto the conveyor line and entering product information into computer systems.
- Conduct quality audits on filled products to ensure maximum and minimum fill lines are consistently met.
- Assist with packing and production at the end of each line as required to maintain workflow.
- Stop machines and help break them down for clean-in-place (CIP) procedures, including mechanically disassembling components as needed.
- Work in conditions where CIP procedures may involve exposure to water and cleaning solutions.
- Maintain compliance with all GMP, HACCP, and FDA regulations related to food manufacturing.
- Accurately complete daily production records and quality reports.
- Assist in training production assistants on GMP requirements and safety rules.
- Use hand tools appropriately and safely when performing machine adjustments and minor repairs.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to resolve production issues and improve processes.
Essential Skills
- Experience as a machine operator, filler operator, packaging operator, or production line operator in a manufacturing environment.
- At least 3 years of recent experience in a highly mechanical role such as diesel mechanic, automotive mechanic, mechanical assembler, or maintenance, or equivalent mechanical aptitude.
- Hands-on experience working with food processing or manufacturing equipment is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency using hand tools for adjustments, repairs, and basic maintenance.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow GMP, HACCP, and FDA food manufacturing guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail for monitoring fill levels, product quality, and accurate recordkeeping.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a 2/2/3 rotating schedule, including overnights (5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.).
- Capability to work in a loud, warm environment with strong food-related odors while maintaining focus and safety.
- Solid work history demonstrating reliability, punctuality, and consistent performance.
- Strong communication skills to assist with training and collaborate with production team members.
- Ability to present and interview well for the role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience in food manufacturing and operating food processing machines is a strong plus.
- Experience on production lines in high-speed, high-volume environments.
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance processes and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
- Comfort working with computer-based machine controls and production systems.
- Willingness to learn and follow detailed safety and sanitation procedures.
- Demonstrated drive to grow into lead or office-based positions over time.
- Ability to adapt to different shifts during training (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.).
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chambersburg, PA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.48 - $22.48/hr.
