Job Title: Field Service TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Field Service Technician provides both in-house and field service support for electromechanical fare boxes used on public buses and trains across the United States. Approximately 75% of the role focuses on testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fare boxes and circuit boards in a clean manufacturing facility, while the remaining 25% involves national travel to customer sites to install, commission, and service equipment on buses and trains. This position offers strong training, mentorship, and the opportunity to develop complex electrical and electromechanical skills in a client-facing environment.
Responsibilities- Test, troubleshoot, and repair production and field service electronic and mechanical assemblies, parts, and equipment.
- Perform board-level circuit repair and analysis, including soldering and component replacement.
- Set up test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional and operational tests on production and field service electronic assemblies.
- Adjust and calibrate circuitry and components using established principles and theories of electronics.
- Install and commission new electromechanical fare box units on buses and trains at customer sites nationwide.
- Provide field-level repair and service on buses and trains, ensuring equipment operates reliably and meets performance standards.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, PCB blueprints, and other technical diagrams to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Write clear technical reports that describe and illustrate the overall performance of installed equipment and service activities.
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver in-house product training to support internal teams and customer personnel.
- Communicate effectively with customers in a client-facing role, providing professional support and soliciting feedback to improve service.
- Use SAP, Microsoft Office, and related software tools to document service activities, manage work orders, and communicate with internal teams.
- Apply basic algebra and geometry concepts to measurements, calibrations, and technical problem-solving.
- Interpret and follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to complete service tasks accurately and on time.
Essential Skills- 1–3 years of experience in electromechanical service, field service, or a closely related technical role, or completion of a technical college degree.
- 1–2 years of hands-on experience working with electro-mechanical systems.
- Background in electro-mechanical assemblies and systems, including mechanical and electrical components.
- Experience with national travel of at least 25% in a previous role or demonstrated readiness for similar travel requirements.
- Proficient soldering skills for board-level repair and assembly work.
- Ability to perform board-level circuit repair, analysis, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, PCB blueprints, and related schematics.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills suitable for a client-facing service role.
- Ability to set up and use electrical test equipment for diagnostics and functional testing.
- Ability to solve practical problems and work with a variety of variables in field and production environments.
- Ability to interpret instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Associate degree or higher in a technical or related field is a plus.
- Experience with modular-level installation of electromechanical equipment.
- Previous use of logic boards with firmware or software for configuration, diagnostics, or updates.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document work clearly and professionally.
- Ability and willingness to solicit customer feedback to improve service quality and customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of SAP for service documentation, parts management, or work order processing.
