Job Title: General LaborerJob DescriptionThe General Laborer is responsible for cleaning welds according to customer specifications and supporting production activities in a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on operating and maintaining chemical passivation systems used to clean and treat metal parts, primarily stainless steel, to enhance corrosion resistance. The position requires careful handling of chemicals, precise monitoring of tank parameters, and consistent adherence to safety and quality protocols while working collaboratively with other team members.
Responsibilities- Clean welds according to customer specifications, ensuring accuracy and consistency in finish and quality.
- Set up, operate, and maintain TIG cleaning systems in line with specific job requirements and established safety protocols.
- Operate and monitor passivation tanks and associated equipment following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Effectively remove discoloration, heat tint, oxides, and other contaminants from TIG welds using TIG cleaning equipment and appropriate cleaning fluids.
- Prepare parts and materials for passivation, including cleaning, racking, and placing parts in tanks for treatment.
- Achieve a clean, corrosion-resistant finish on stainless steel and other metals through proper passivation processes.
- Mix and test chemical solutions to verify proper concentration and effectiveness, making adjustments as needed.
- Inspect cleaned welds to confirm they meet quality standards and customer specifications.
- Perform visual inspections of parts before and after treatment to assess cleanliness, finish quality, and conformance to specifications.
- Document all process parameters, maintenance checks, and batch information accurately and in a timely manner.
- Handle hazardous chemicals in accordance with OSHA safety standards and internal company policies.
- Clean and maintain TIG cleaning equipment, brushes, leads, and related components to maximize lifespan and ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the passivation area, including proper disposal of waste materials.
- Coordinate with quality control and production teams to ensure workflow efficiency and part quality that meets production schedules.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and promptly report malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area throughout the shift.
- Set up and operate pressure testing equipment in accordance with established testing procedures.
- Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic tests on parts, assemblies, and systems to detect leaks, verify performance, and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Monitor pressure gauges, readouts, and valves during testing processes to ensure accurate and safe operation.
- Identify, document, and report any issues discovered during testing or inspection to the appropriate personnel.
- Support general labor, production, packing, assembly, parts washing, polishing, buffing, inspection, and related tasks as needed.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete assigned work.
