Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join our growing team. The Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing our financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance in accounting practices, and providing strategic financial guidance. This position requires a strong background in construction accounting, particularly within trade unions and certified payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all aspects of accounting, billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and various special analyses.
- Ensure the accuracy of the company's financial records and compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Manage the payroll process, including certified payroll operations and union benefit administration.
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, and report variances.
- Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets.
- Supervise and manage financial department staff, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Conduct monthly WIP (Work In Progress) reporting and analysis.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes.
- Collaborate with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance.
- Provide strategic financial planning and analysis to support business decisions.
- Maintain and enhance relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including trade unions and financial institutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- CPA or CMA certification is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Experience in construction accounting, specifically with trade unions.
- Proficiency in Certified Payroll operations and union benefit administration.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, including WIP and managerial accounting.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in work.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Competitive base salary ($110,000 - $130,000 annually) commensurate with experience.
