Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our busy business litigation practice. The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload, represent clients in complex commercial disputes, and support senior attorneys in all phases of litigationfrom intake and discovery through motion practice, depositions, and trial preparation. This role offers a balance of courtroom advocacy, client counseling, and legal research and writing in a collaborative firm environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied docket of business and commercial litigation matters under partner supervision, including case assessment, strategy development, and client communication.
- Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and other court filings with clear, persuasive legal writing.
- Handle all phases of discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories and requests for production, organizing document reviews, and managing e-discovery processes.
- Prepare for and take depositions of parties and witnesses; prepare witnesses for defense and plaintiff depositions.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on complex substantive and procedural issues in business law and litigation.
- Assist with trial preparation, including developing exhibits, witness lists, trial briefs, and courtroom presentations; support attorneys during hearings and trials as needed.
- Advise and counsel clients on general business issues related to disputes, risk mitigation, and settlement strategy.
- Collaborate with partners, associates, paralegals, and support staff to meet client objectives and adhere to firm procedures and deadlines.
- Maintain accurate timekeeping and billing records and contribute to business development efforts, including client pitches and proposal drafting.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the state bar and eligibility to appear in federal court; admission to the state bar where the firm practices preferred.
- 2+ years of litigation experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, with preference for candidates who have handled business or commercial disputes.
- Practical experience or strong familiarity with business litigation, business law, and general business matters.
- Demonstrated courtroom and deposition experience, including taking and defending depositions.
- Excellent legal research, analytical, and written and oral communication skills, with the ability to draft persuasive motions and briefs.
- Strong project and case management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment; professional demeanor when interacting with clients and opposing counsel.
- Proficiency with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis) and case management software; experience with e-discovery platforms a plus.
