Pay Range: $21.00-$26.00/hour
Shift Times: 7:00am-3:30pm Monday-Friday
Job Description
This role focuses on performing complete box trailer overhauls and structural modifications, including metal framing, sheet metal installation, and hitch repairs. You will work with a variety of tools and materials to repair, rebuild, and extend trailers while following strict safety and quality standards in a hands-on shop environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete box trailer overhauls, including removing all interior metal shelving and preparing the trailer for refurbishment.
- Measure and cut metal framing materials to precise specifications using appropriate tools.
- Install, align, and secure metal frames within trailers to ensure structural integrity and proper fit.
- Attach sheet metal to frames using rivet guns to extend truck beds and complete structural modifications.
- Repair or replace trailer hitches using a plasma cutter and other shop equipment as needed.
- Assist other technicians with repair projects during downtime to support overall shop productivity.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper storage of tools and materials.
- Follow all safety procedures, shop rules, and quality standards while performing trailer modifications and repairs.
- Use tape measures and blueprints to interpret specifications and ensure accurate builds and repairs.
- Apply mechanical aptitude and basic automotive repair skills to diagnose and resolve trailer issues.
Essential Skills
- Proven mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience working with tools in a construction, carpentry, automotive repair, or body shop environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and measurements accurately using a tape measure.
- Experience with metal carpentry, including cutting, framing, and installing metal components.
- Experience operating a plasma cutter for cutting and repairing metal parts such as trailer hitches.
- Familiarity with body repair or body shop work, including structural and cosmetic repairs.
- Carpentry and framing experience, particularly in metal framing applications.
- Ability to use rivet guns and other shop tools to attach sheet metal and complete structural assemblies.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures in a shop environment and commitment to following them consistently.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Autobody schooling or completion of a related technical training program.
- ASE certifications or similar industry-recognized credentials in automotive or body repair.
- Experience working in construction, scaffolding, or similar trades involving framing and structural work.
- Experience in automotive repair, including familiarity with trailers, truck beds, and related components.
- Experience working in smaller shops where flexibility and teamwork are essential.

Work Environment
You work in a smaller trailer shop with open bay doors, creating a true hands-on, shop-floor environment where conditions vary with the seasons; it will be colder in the winter and hotter in the summer. The role operates on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with hours that may vary based on business needs. You regularly use tools such as tape measures, rivet guns, plasma cutters, and other mechanical and carpentry equipment while working on trailers and truck beds. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and teamwork while handling metal framing, sheet metal, and automotive components.
