Job Description

The Assembly Technician works in a fast-paced, Lean manufacturing shop that builds high-quality, custom-engineered industrial control panels for a variety of industries, including packaging, pharmaceutical, and water/wastewater facilities. Engineers design the panels and provide detailed diagrams, and the Assembly Technician focuses on wiring and assisting in the fabrication of electrical cabinets, following established processes and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Wire industrial control panels on a daily basis according to engineering blueprints and ladder diagrams.
• Interpret and follow detailed wiring diagrams to assemble panels accurately and efficiently.
• Gather and organize all necessary wires, components, and supplies required for each project.
• Complete panel assemblies using the required amount of materials while adhering to company wiring standards and methods.
• Learn and follow specific panel wiring and assembly procedures established by the organization.
• Use various hand tools and power tools to assemble and wire control panels and assist in the fabrication of electrical cabinets.
• Perform mechanical assembly tasks related to control panel construction, ensuring proper fit and function of components.
• Assist with installation-related tasks and soldering as needed to complete panel builds.
• Work in a production environment, meeting quality, safety, and productivity expectations.
• Collaborate with other departments involved in panel setup and wiring to ensure panels match design specifications.
• Verify that assembled panels conform to diagrams and make adjustments as directed when issues are identified.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following safety guidelines and proper tool usage.

Essential Skills

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and ladder diagrams for electrical control panels.
• Hands-on experience or training with control panel wiring, either from school or practical work.
• Proficiency using hand tools and power tools for mechanical and electrical assembly tasks.
• Basic understanding of electrical and electronic concepts relevant to control panel assembly.
• Capability to work in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform mechanical assembly work.
• Ability to follow established wiring standards, procedures, and quality requirements.
• Good organizational skills for gathering and managing wires, components, and supplies for each project.
• Commitment to safety, including proper use of tools and adherence to safe work practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Electrical/Electronic Associate Degree from a technical institution such as Ranken or ITT is preferred.
• Control panel wiring experience is preferred but not required.
• Entry-level candidates are welcome if they can demonstrate working electrical knowledge from school.
• Experience in production environments involving power tools and mechanical assembly is an advantage.
• Familiarity with soldering and basic installation tasks is beneficial.
• Exposure to Lean manufacturing environments is a plus.
