Job Title: Maintenance Electrician
Job Description
The Maintenance Electrician performs preventative and corrective maintenance on production line equipment in a beverage packaging environment. This role combines electrical, mechanical, and PLC-related work, with a strong focus on troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and keeping equipment operating safely and efficiently. The position is open to both experienced technicians and junior candidates with a solid technical foundation, strong work ethic, and a desire to learn.
Responsibilities
- Repair and conduct preventative maintenance on production line equipment including automated case packers, palletizers, labelers, hot fill equipment, and blow mold machines.
- Perform expert-level root cause analysis on equipment issues and implement effective preventative maintenance strategies to reduce downtime.
- Carry out maintenance operations on beverage packaging lines, ensuring all preventive maintenance tasks are completed on schedule.
- Operate and maintain beverage processing and packaging equipment such as blow molds, filling equipment, pasteurizers, labeling equipment, packaging equipment, film wrappers, automated palletizers, depalletizers, and conveyors.
- Utilize the maintenance management system by entering completed work orders, including parts and materials used, to keep inventory records accurate and up to date.
- Follow company safety procedures and comply with state and federal occupational safety regulations, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), use of personal protective equipment (PPE), machine guarding, and hot work requirements.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by performing housekeeping tasks and complying with GMPs, SQF, HACCP, LOTO, and general workplace safety standards.
- Maintain accurate, legible, and well-organized documentation for all maintenance activities and equipment work performed.
- Follow good manufacturing practices at all times to support consistent, high-quality production.
- Ensure food safety and product quality are maintained by adhering to relevant regulations and company guidelines.
- Participate in ongoing training related to job duties, safety, equipment operation, and product handling to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
- Perform other maintenance and operational duties as directed by leadership to support overall plant performance.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on production equipment to quickly identify problems and implement effective solutions.
- Work collaboratively with production and other maintenance team members to minimize downtime and support smooth line operation.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn new equipment and systems.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience with electrical systems up to 480 V, including safe work practices around high-voltage equipment.
- Ability to work on both three-phase and single-phase motors, including installation, troubleshooting, and basic repair.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for both electrical and mechanical issues on production line equipment.
- Experience performing preventative maintenance on automated packaging and processing equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of pneumatics and the ability to troubleshoot and maintain pneumatic components.
- Familiarity with PLCs, including basic awareness and understanding sufficient to interact with control systems during troubleshooting.
- Experience with beverage processing and packaging equipment such as blow molds, filling equipment, pasteurizers, labeling equipment, film wrappers, palletizers, depalletizers, and conveyors.
- Ability to use a maintenance management system to document work orders, parts usage, and maintenance history accurately.
- Understanding and application of safety procedures including lockout/tagout (LOTO), PPE usage, machine guarding, and hot work protocols.
- Knowledge of and adherence to GMPs, SQF, HACCP, and general workplace safety standards.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, legible, and organized documentation.
- Capability to perform root cause analysis and implement preventative measures to reduce recurring equipment issues.
- Good base technical knowledge for candidates coming with little to no experience, with a strong desire to learn and grow in a maintenance role.
