Job Title: PackagerJob DescriptionThis role focuses on packaging and bagging finished food products at the end of a high-volume production line. You will work in a fast-paced tortilla manufacturing environment, ensuring that products are correctly counted, packaged, boxed, and palletized while maintaining strict food safety and quality standards. The position requires continuous standing, frequent lifting, and close collaboration with machine operators and leads to keep production running smoothly and safely.
Responsibilities- Work at the end of the production line to package and bag finished tortillas according to established standards.
- Verify that the correct packaging materials are available and in use before and during production.
- Confirm the quantity of tortillas in each stack and promptly notify the lead if counts are inaccurate.
- Quickly and neatly place tortillas into packages as they exit from the counter stacker.
- Place filled packages in the proper location for sealing and re-verify that the correct packaging is being used.
- Confirm that the proper cartons are being used for each product run.
- Inspect package seals and set aside any packages that do not meet quality standards.
- Verify that code dates on packages and cartons are legible and accurate.
- Place the proper number of packages into cases, using inserts when necessary, and ensure cartons are sealed correctly.
- Prepare boxes for product packaging, including assembling, sealing, and taping product boxes.
- Ensure box printers are operating properly and that printed information is clear and accurate.
- Place finished product cartons on pallets in the designated configuration and orientation.
- Arrange cartons so expiration codes can be read from all sides of the pallet.
- Confirm the quantity of cartons on each pallet and affix the correct bar code label.
- Wrap pallets with stretch wrap and move them to the warehouse for loading.
- Maintain adequate supplies in the packing area, including packaging materials and boxes.
- Empty food waste containers into the compactor and remove cardboard from the packing area to keep the workspace clean and organized.
- Communicate any equipment errors or issues to machine operators or leads in a timely manner.
- Rotate between packaging, boxing, and palletizing duties throughout the shift as directed.
- Consistently lift and move products and materials, including weights up to 50 pounds, throughout the shift.
- Stand and work on your feet for the full shift, typically around 8 hours.
- Follow all food safety and contamination prevention guidelines, including restrictions on personal items and attire.
- Use a computer to enter production data and job information accurately as required.
- Wear required personal protective equipment such as gowns, hair nets, beard nets (if applicable), and hearing protection.
- Work safely and effectively in a hot production environment that can reach temperatures up to approximately 100 degrees.
- Operate at a fast pace to meet production targets while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Essential Skills- At least 6 months of packaging experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in food production, with bakery experience preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds consistently throughout the day.
- Comfort working in a hot environment that can reach temperatures up to approximately 100 degrees.
- Ability to work at a very fast pace while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to stand and work on your feet for approximately 8 hours per shift.
- Comfort working with a computer to enter and update job and production data.
- Ability to follow strict food safety and contamination prevention guidelines, including limitations on personal items and attire.
- Strong awareness of quality standards, including checking counts, seals, packaging, and code dates.
- Reliability and consistency in performing repetitive tasks in a production setting.
- Effective communication skills to report equipment issues and coordinate with leads and machine operators.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Previous experience on a packaging line, including bagging, boxing, labeling, and palletizing.
- General production and inventory handling experience.
- Familiarity with working around flour or gluten in the air in a food manufacturing environment.
- Ability to adapt to rotating duties and changing production needs.
