You will read and interpret blueprints, cut and measure materials, form and fabricate components, and complete high-precision welds to achieve uniform, aesthetically clean welds.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret welding blueprints and fabrication drawings to understand part requirements, tolerances, and weld specifications.
- Cut, measure, and prepare materials according to prints, ensuring accuracy and adherence to specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Perform TIG welding on stainless steel and other materials
- Build complete weldments from start to finish, including layout, fit-up, clamping, welding, and final test-fit as needed.
- Weld in a variety of positions and directions, including vertical and horizontal, while maintaining high-quality weld appearance and integrity.
- Work with a range of material thicknesses
- Execute a variety of weld joint types, such as fillet, butt, thick-to-thin, and round tube joints, while maintaining strong structural and cosmetic quality.
- Fabricate with stainless steel materials, including proper handling, clamping, fixturing, and preparation to avoid damage or contamination.
- Operate and set up basic forming and machining equipment, such as roll-formers, pan brakes, drill presses, and band saws, to support fabrication tasks.
- Use hand tools safely and effectively, including angle grinders, drills, and air tools, for polishing welds and prepping materials.
- Polish stainless steel using appropriate hand tools to achieve the required finish and meet cleanliness standards.
- Inspect work during and after fabrication to verify accuracy to print, fit, and finish, and make adjustments or rework as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures, including proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience as a TIG welder and fabricator with the ability to build parts from blueprint to finished weldment.
- Strong TIG welding skills with the ability to control heat
- Ability to read, understand, and work from welding prints and fabrication blueprints with close attention to detail and tolerances.
- Proficiency in welding a variety of material thicknesses, from 14-gauge to 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch.
- Capability to weld in multiple positions and directions, maintaining quality in vertical, horizontal, and other orientations.
- Experience welding a range of joint types, including fillet, butt, thick-to-thin, and round tube joints.
- Hands-on experience fabricating with stainless steel materials, including proper handling, clamping, and preparation.
- High attention to detail with the ability to build weldments accurately to print, hold tolerances, and test-fit assemblies as needed.
- Safe and effective use of hand tools such as angle grinders, drills, and air tools for weld prep and finishing.
- Ability to operate basic forming and machining equipment, including roll-formers, pan brakes, drill presses, and band saws.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working as a TIG welder and fabricator in a precision or custom fabrication environment.
- Comfort working with custom, one-off, or small-batch parts where each project may differ from the last.
- Strong problem-solving skills to adjust fit-up, clamping, and welding techniques to achieve the desired outcome.
- Commitment to quality, cleanliness, and precision suitable for products used in sensitive applications
