Job Title: Test TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Test Technician performs electrical testing and validation of switchgear assemblies to ensure safety, quality, functionality, and overall conformity of products before shipment. This role focuses on verifying the proper operation of AC/DC circuits and electrical components, accurately documenting results, and collaborating closely with engineering and manufacturing teams in a factory-based environment.
Responsibilities- Perform electrical testing and validation of switchgear assemblies to ensure safety, quality, functionality, and conformity with specifications prior to shipment.
- Execute test procedures to confirm that all switchgear systems meet required performance and compliance standards.
- Read, interpret, and troubleshoot complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to identify and resolve issues.
- Operate and maintain test equipment, including volt meters, breaker test kits, Dielectric (Hi-Pot) testers, torque wrenches, and related tools.
- Validate the proper operation of AC/DC circuits, transformers, fusing, relays, and circuit breakers.
- Verify the correct installation and function of electrical control components such as ice cube relays and other common control devices.
- Document test results accurately and maintain clear, organized records of all testing activities.
- Communicate issues, defects, or non-conformances promptly to engineering and manufacturing teams to support timely resolution.
- Work closely with Systems Engineering, Wiring, Bus, and Assembly teams to build and deliver high-quality switchgear products.
- Follow and promote safe electrical work practices in a manufacturing environment, adhering to all safety and emergency procedures.
- Use a basic understanding of Windows operating systems to navigate software, manage files, and support test documentation.
- Utilize various hand tools and power tools relevant to the electrical trade, such as strippers, crimpers, and multimeters, during testing and troubleshooting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by applying strong analytical skills and attention to detail in daily work.
- Work independently or as part of a team to manage multiple tasks while maintaining high standards of quality and workmanship.
Essential Skills- Proficient understanding of AC/DC electrical theory and its application in testing and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Hands-on ability to troubleshoot electrical equipment and systems based on schematic information.
- Solid understanding of transformers, fusing, ice cube relays, and other common electrical control components.
- Proficiency in operating test equipment, including volt meters, breaker test kits, Dielectric (Hi-Pot) testers, torque wrenches, and similar tools.
- Basic understanding of Windows operating systems, including software navigation and file management for test documentation.
- Basic understanding of the operation of circuit breakers from various manufacturers.
- Skilled use of hand tools and power tools relevant to the electrical trade, such as wire strippers, crimpers, and multimeters.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in testing switchgear controls or similar control system testing.
- Strong analytical skills to diagnose issues and interpret test results.
- Effective communication skills to interact with peers, engineering teams, and management.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining high quality.
- Solid knowledge of electronics and electrical control systems.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Familiarity with various switchgear types, including metal-clad, medium-voltage, and low-voltage switchgear.
- Experience with PLC wiring and network communication setup in control systems.
- Knowledge of UL standards such as UL 891, UL 508A, or UL 1558.
- Desire for continuous improvement and willingness to refine processes and practices.
