Job Description
This role offers a structured six-month training and crash course in mechanical maintenance, designed to develop you into a full-time maintenance mechanic. You will support the installation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of a wide range of industrial equipment in a new paper mill environment, working with experienced technicians while building your skills in mechanical systems, welding, and fluid power.
Responsibilities
- Support the installation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of plant equipment, including corrugators, cranes, pumps, transmissions, and other rotating equipment.
- Assist with installing and aligning shafts and drive train components to ensure proper operation and minimal downtime.
- Perform component replacements and repairs, including iMAX replacements and related mechanical repairs, as well as troubleshooting upenders and similar equipment.
- Replace fan bearings and remove and refit bearings on various mechanical systems using proper tools and techniques.
- Troubleshoot and assist in the repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, identifying issues and implementing corrective actions under guidance.
- Perform Stick or MIG welding on equipment and components as needed for maintenance and repair activities.
- Document work performed, communicate equipment issues clearly, and contribute to a team-oriented maintenance culture.
Essential Skills
- Mechanical maintenance experience with heavy equipment, industrial machinery, manufacturing equipment, farm equipment, or similar mechanical systems.
- Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and repair of mechanical components such as pumps, transmissions, rotating equipment, bearings, and drive train components.
- Hands-on experience or strong aptitude in welding, specifically Stick or MIG welding, for maintenance and repair work.
- Fundamental knowledge of hydraulic systems, including the ability to assist in troubleshooting hydraulic components and circuits.
- Fundamental knowledge of pneumatic systems, including the ability to assist in troubleshooting pneumatic components and circuits.
- Ability to interpret and work from blueprints, mechanical drawings, and related technical documents.
- Capability to safely operate fork trucks, hoists, and lifts when required, following proper safety procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability to think quickly in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts, including days and nights, after the initial training period.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Mechanical maintenance experience in heavy equipment, industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, or comparable environments.
- Formal mechanical maintenance training, industrial schooling, or related technical education.
- Experience working with farm equipment or similar machinery that demonstrates strong mechanical skills.
- Welding experience beyond Stick or MIG, including TIG welding, is beneficial.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $60000.00/yr.
