Position Overview
Scranton School District is seeking compassionate, reliable, and student-focused Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) / Teaching Assistants to support students and instructional programs throughout the school day. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about helping students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally while contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist certified teachers with lesson implementation and classroom activities
• Provide one-on-one and small-group support to students
• Support students with special needs, including academic, behavioral, and personal care assistance as needed
• Reinforce instructional concepts and learning objectives
• Monitor student behavior and utilize positive behavior support strategies
• Assist with classroom preparation, organization, and instructional materials
• Supervise students during transitions, lunch periods, and school-sponsored activities
• Help collect student data and maintain accurate documentation
• Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
• Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, administrators, and support staff
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required
• Experience working with children and/or individuals with special needs preferred
• Teaching Assistant certification or relevant educational support experience preferred
• Ability to obtain and maintain all required clearances and credentials

Working Conditions
• School and classroom-based environments within Scranton School District
• May involve supporting students with physical, emotional, developmental, or behavioral needs
• Requires standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting throughout the school day
Requirements
• Successful completion of Pennsylvania state and federal background clearances, including fingerprinting
• Compliance with all Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements and district policies
• CPR and First Aid certification may be required
