Position Summary
The Addiction Counselor plays a critical role in supporting individuals experiencing substance use disorders by providing comprehensive behavioral health services and evidence-based treatment interventions. This position focuses on helping clients navigate the recovery process through individual counseling, group counseling, treatment planning, relapse prevention, and case coordination.
The counselor collaborates with an interdisciplinary treatment team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that promote recovery, wellness, and improved quality of life. The position requires strong clinical judgment, effective crisis intervention skills, timely documentation, and a commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed care.
The successful candidate will empower individuals and families to achieve meaningful recovery outcomes through compassionate, ethical, and culturally responsive services.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related behavioral health field.
- Knowledge of substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, and recovery-oriented treatment approaches.
- Experience providing counseling services in a behavioral health or substance use treatment setting.
- Strong assessment, treatment planning, documentation, and case management skills.
- Ability to provide crisis intervention and support individuals experiencing behavioral health emergencies.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHRs) and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), Certified Associate Addictions Counselor (CAAC), Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS), or relevant credential.
- Licensure as an LPC, LSW, LCSW, LMFT, or related behavioral health professional.
- Experience facilitating psychoeducational and therapeutic group counseling sessions.
- Training in Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, or other evidence-based treatment modalities.
- Experience working with diverse and underserved populations.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and screenings to determine treatment needs and appropriate levels of care.
- Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and interdisciplinary treatment teams.
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling services utilizing evidence-based practices.
- Assist clients in identifying recovery goals, strengths, barriers, and strategies for sustained recovery.
- Facilitate relapse prevention planning and recovery support activities.
- Provide crisis intervention services and appropriate referrals when necessary.
- Coordinate care with medical providers, behavioral health professionals, community agencies, and other support systems.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency policies, licensing standards, funding requirements, and regulatory expectations.
- Monitor client progress and adjust treatment interventions as clinically indicated.
- Educate clients and families regarding substance use disorders, recovery principles, community resources, and wellness strategies.
- Participate in treatment team meetings, case consultations, supervision, and professional development activities.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
