Addiction Counselor / Behavioral Health Specialist
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Brooklyn Park, MD
Pay/Compensation: $22 to 32 hrly + $2,000 Sign-On Bonus (payable after 90 days of satisfactory work performance).
About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor to provide vital counseling and case management services to clients navigating substance use disorders. In this role, you will utilize evidence-based interventions, treatment planning, and rehabilitation strategies to help clients develop healthy lifestyles and sustainable recovery management skills. A foundational knowledge of substance use disorders and dual-diagnosis/co-occurring conditions is essential.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Caseload Management: Maintain a clinical caseload as assigned and in strict accordance with Maryland COMAR and CARF regulations.
- Intake & Assessment: Ensure all incoming clients receive a complete psychosocial history, comprehensive assessment, and interpretative summary within 5 days of admission.
- Treatment Planning: Complete a Preliminary Treatment Plan with multidisciplinary team participation within 3 days of admission. Formulate a Comprehensive Treatment Plan alongside the team and client within 30 days of admission.
- Plan Updates: Author and execute a Treatment Plan Update every 30 days following the completion of the initial Comprehensive Treatment Plan.
- Continuum of Care: Prepare clear aftercare plans for all patients completing the program or transitioning out. Coordinate care for Health Home services and provide structured follow-up contact with discharged patients.
- Clinical Counseling: Deliver individualized addiction counseling sessions tailored to each client's specific Comprehensive Treatment Plan.
- Professional Alignment: Perform all clinical and administrative duties within the scheduled workweek while complying with State/Federal or Certification/Licensure training mandates.
Required Experience, Education & Licensure:
- Maryland Licensure (Mandatory): Must possess an active status/license from the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as an ADT (Alcohol and Drug Counselor Trainee), CSC-AD (Certified Supervised Counselor-Alcohol and Drug), CAC-AD (Certified Associate Counselor-Alcohol and Drug), or hold an active certification as a licensed addiction counselor.
- Experience: Proven background in substance use counseling, social work, case management, or closely related behavioral health fields.
- Clinical Skills: Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution and managing crisis situations with a compassionate, non-judgmental approach.
- Core Competencies: Exceptional interpersonal skills with an innate ability to build professional rapport with clients; excellent written and verbal communication skills for clinical documentation.
- Professionalism: Maintain a positive, professional, and ethical demeanor with patients, staff, and visitors at all times.
