Position Summary
The General Superintendent serves as PSC's senior field leader, providing leadership and support across multiple structural steel erection projects throughout the southeastern United States.
This position works closely with company leadership, project managers, superintendents, and foremen to improve field performance, mentor future leaders, support project execution, and ensure PSC maintains the highest standards of safety, quality, productivity, and professionalism.
Rather than being assigned to a single project, the General Superintendent travels between active jobsites, providing hands-on leadership wherever it is needed most. Whether assisting with project startups, supporting struggling projects, developing field leaders, or helping identify qualified personnel, this position plays a critical role in the continued growth and success of PSC.
Primary Responsibilities
Field Leadership
- Visit multiple active projects to provide field leadership and support.
- Coach and mentor superintendents, foremen, and field crews.
- Promote consistency in field operations across all PSC projects.
- Monitor productivity, workmanship, safety, and project progress.
- Identify opportunities to improve field efficiency and project execution.
- Serve as a trusted resource for field leadership and project teams.
Project Support & Performance Improvement
- Assist with project startups, mobilizations, and manpower transitions.
- Support erection planning, crane coordination, and site logistics.
- Help identify and resolve field issues affecting schedule or productivity.
- Assist project teams in recovering struggling or behind-schedule projects.
- Coordinate with project managers, safety personnel, and company leadership to develop practical solutions.
- Help ensure projects have the personnel, equipment, and resources necessary for success.
Workforce Development
- Mentor and develop future foremen, superintendents, and field leaders.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new field employees.
- Evaluate employee performance and identify opportunities for advancement.
- Promote craftsmanship, professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the field organization.
- Help establish consistency in training, expectations, and leadership across all jobsites.
Recruiting & Staffing Support
- Assist company leadership in identifying and recruiting qualified ironworkers and field leaders.
- Build and maintain relationships throughout the structural steel industry.
- Recommend qualified candidates for employment.
- Maintain awareness of regional manpower availability.
- Support manpower planning and staffing needs as projects grow.
Leadership & Culture
- Lead by example and reinforce PSC's commitment to safety, quality, integrity, and professionalism.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.
- Promote accountability and continuous improvement at every level of the organization.
- Represent PSC professionally with customers, contractors, and industry partners.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of structural steel erection experience.
- Previous experience as a Structural Steel Superintendent or General Foreman required.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing field teams.
- Strong understanding of structural steel erection means and methods.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, erection plans, and specifications.
- Experience coordinating manpower, equipment, cranes, and field logistics.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the southeastern United States.
- Existing relationships within the structural steel industry are highly desirable.
Preferred Background
- Experience managing multiple structural steel erection projects simultaneously.
- Mission-critical, data center, industrial, manufacturing, or large commercial steel erection experience.
