Role Summary
The Operations Lead, Denver is responsible for the leadership, performance, and growth of the Denver office. This role ensures the successful delivery of all project and construction management engagements, drives business development across the region, and builds and manages a high-performing team. The Lead is accountable for office utilization, profitability, and staffing, and is expected to maintain a minimum of 50% personal billability after year one. This role combines leadership, client delivery, and business development responsibilities, requiring both strategic oversight and direct contribution to project work.
Reporting Relationships
- Reports to the COO (with future reporting to the Sr. VP, PMCM)
- Direct reports include:
- Denver Project Managers
- Denver QA/QC Staff
- Denver Project Controls Staff
Authority
- Supervisory responsibility for direct reports, including performance management and assignment of duties
- Authority to recommend hiring, termination, promotion, and compensation adjustments for direct reports, subject to final approval by the COO
- Authority to negotiate and recommend professional services agreements and change orders; final approval and execution authority resides with the COO
- Authority to review and approve client invoices for accuracy and completeness prior to submission
Core Responsibilities
Leadership & Office Management
- Provide overall leadership, direction, and accountability for the Denver office
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and industry stakeholders in the Denver region
- Represent the company in the local market through active participation in networking events, industry associations, and client engagements (including after-hours events and periodic travel)
- Conduct regular (at least quarterly) staff meetings to review project performance and operational priorities
- Ensure alignment with company strategy, policies, and standards
Project Delivery & Oversight
- Oversee execution of all projects within the Denver office to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met
- Ensure consistency with company QA/QC standards and project controls practices
- Maintain working knowledge of Project Controls and QA/QC disciplines, including applicable systems, tools, and standards, sufficient to effectively oversee project performance
- Review project performance and intervene as necessary to maintain successful outcomes
- Assign projects and manage resource allocation across the team
Business Development
- Identify, pursue, and secure new project opportunities within Denver and the surrounding region across all Sunland service lines, including Project Management, Construction Management, Architecture, and Engineering
- Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective clients, partners, and referral sources
- Support marketing, proposal development, and pricing strategies in coordination with corporate and support functions
People & Talent Management
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-quality professional staff aligned with current and future workload
- Recommend hiring, promotion, compensation adjustments, and terminations for direct reports, subject to COO approval
- Manage employee performance, including disciplinary actions, in accordance with company policy
- Assess training and development needs and implement growth plans for team members
- Conduct performance reviews and manage employee development and progression
- Maintain clear understanding of team roles and responsibilities to ensure effective delegation and accountability
Operations & Financial Management
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of timesheets, job cost tracking, and project documentation
- Ensure and enforce that staff maintain accurate and timely timesheets and project documentation in accordance with company requirements
- Maintain organized and compliant project files in accordance with company standards
- Oversee preparation of budgets for projects and contracts, including subconsultant agreements
- Review and approve project documentation and billing inputs prior to submission to accounting
- Collaborate with corporate and support functions to ensure accurate marketing, pricing, and operational support
