What You’ll Do (Your Key Responsibilities)
As a Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technician, you’ll play a critical role in our hospital, ensuring high-quality medical car; patient, staff, and client safety; and client and staff education. Your responsibilities will include:
Patient Care & Technical Skills
- Assist in exam rooms by obtaining comprehensive patient histories, and vitals and accurately recording information using ScribeNote.
- Be very familiar with the vaccine and other protocols of the hospital to easily translate through client education to owners
- Support doctors with exams, administering vaccines, drawing blood, performing a variety of technician approved procedures, accurately dosing and dispensing medications, and providing client education.
- Perform triage, record vitals (TPRs), run in-house lab tests, and assist with dentistry, surgery, and minor procedures.
- Conduct diagnostic testing using IDEXX lab equipment, including in-house cytology preparation and submission, accurately reading ear cytology. and other diagnostic equipment
- Oversee anesthesia preparation, induction, and monitoring- from admission pre-anesthetics to recovery, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Assist Veterinary Assistants with late night and/or weekend treatment protocols
Surgical & Clinical Support
- Prepare the surgical suite, check anesthetic machines, and ensure surgical readiness of the environment and patient.
- Use of dental equipment, dental radiographs, charting and thorough dental cleanings and other procedures to maintain pet oral health.
- Create accurate medical records, discharge instructions, and invoicing for surgical and anesthetized patients.
Leadership & Hospital Operations
- Supervise, mentor, and train technicians, veterinary assistants, and animal care staff to enhance their skills and yours.
- Coordinate and participate in weekend treatment plans when a licensed technician is required (rare but can occur).
- Maintain and oversee medical equipment, inventory management, OSHA compliance, and AAHA standards.
- Manage DEA and regular inventory and reports monthly.
- Organize and lead team meetings and quarterly enrichment events.
- Collaborate with the practice owner, DVMs and staff to enhance patient care
Client Communication & Hospital Growth
- Provide compassionate, clear, and informative communication to pet owners and co-workers.
- Promote hospital services, treatment plans, and preventive care.
- Contribute and participate in marketing and community outreach efforts.
- Ensure thorough and complete communication to clients regarding test results and client requests
