Job Description

This role focuses on welding and fitting in a custom job shop environment, primarily working with carbon steel using MIG and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW). You will perform precision work with very tight tolerances, support fabrication projects from blueprint to finished product, and contribute to both structural and aluminum TIG welding tasks. A proactive, "can do" attitude and the ability to work independently from prints are essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG and FCAW welding on carbon steel components in a custom job shop setting.
• Execute precise welding and fitting work, consistently meeting tight tolerances up to 0.0060 inches.
• Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and layout drawings to plan and complete fabrication tasks.
• Carry out layout and fit-up of structural and fabricated parts prior to welding.
• Operate as an experienced fitter or tenured welder who can work from prints with minimal supervision.
• Perform welding in 1G, 2G, and 3G positions, including horizontal, flat, and vertical orientations.
• Conduct TIG welding on aluminum materials, including layout and fit-up based on prints.
• Fabricate steel structures and assemblies according to project specifications and quality standards.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and safety while working in a busy metal shop environment.
• Collaborate with team members and respond constructively to feedback to support continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience working in a structural weld shop or structural welding/fitting environment.
• Proficiency in MIG welding on carbon steel.
• Hands-on experience with flux-cored arc welding (FCAW).
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
• Demonstrated experience with layout and fit-up of structural and fabricated components.
• Capability to weld in 1, 2, and 3 positions (horizontal, flat, and vertical).
• "Can do" attitude with the ability to hit the ground running when working from prints.
• Experience working in a fabrication environment with tight tolerances.
• Ability to perform TIG welding on aluminum materials.

Work Environment

The role is based in a custom metal shop with a medium-sized, family-oriented culture. The facility operates with both bay doors open during the winter, and the space is not heated, so employees must be comfortable working in cold weather conditions. The work involves typical fabrication shop activities around welding and metal fabrication equipment, with an emphasis on safety and teamwork in a busy, hands-on environment. Dress appropriately for a metal shop setting and for varying temperatures, with suitable protective clothing and gear.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
