Patient Financial Experience Specialist
**Position Summary:**
At Stony Brook Medicine, a **Patient Financial Experience Specialist** will support the patient financial experience from within the hospital's Patient Financial Services Department. The position will support day-to-day business functions impacting customer service, patient billing and collections and financial assistance.
**Duties of a Patient Financial Experience Specialist** **may include the following, but are not limited to:**
+ Provides excellent customer service to all patients and physician offices
+ Educates and screens patients for participation in the Hospital's Financial Assistance program
+ Processes and approves Financial Assistance applications
+ Investigates and accurately updates insurance coordination of benefits (COB), including refund request letters, reports, mail, etc.
+ Processes patient payments, sets up auto pay payments and/or corrects payment information
+ Identifies issues and patterns on accounts within our financial system
+ Assists in staff training and makes recommendations to improve policy and procedures for the unit and the office
+ Verifies and updates insurance plans.
+ Liaises with third party billing and collection agencies.
+ Other duties, as assigned
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Health Information Management or related field with a minimum of 6 months business experience, preferably in a healthcare setting; **_or_** **_in lieu of_** a Bachelor's degree, an Associate's degree and at least 6 months of business experience, preferably in a healthcare setting such as revenue cycle, medical billing, or follow-up experience; **_or in lieu of a degree_** , at least 2 years of business experience, preferably in a healthcare setting such as revenue cycle, medical billing, or follow-up experience.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience with Inpatient and Outpatient billing requirements (UB-04/837i) and/or CMS Medicare and New York Medicaid reimbursement methodologies.
+ Knowledge of third-party payer reimbursement and managed care contracts.
+ Experience in utilizing insurance websites to check for eligibility and claim status.
+ Experience investigating, reviewing and following-up on rejected/denied inpatient and outpatient hospital claims.
+ Knowledge of CPT, HCPCs and ICD-10 coding principles.
+ Experience with Cerner Invision and/or Cerner Millennium Patient Accounting Experience in Insurance Verification.

**Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:**
