We are offering a role for a Controller in the non-profit sector, based out of San Diego, California. The role primarily involves leading financial activities, ensuring the integrity of general ledger data, and managing vendor relationships.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and execute month-end closing activities, ensuring the general ledger is consistently accurate and updated.
• Monitor cash requirements to ensure sufficient funds for payroll and other payments.
• Direct Contract Compliance and Vendor Management activities.
• Review significant estimate accounts such as bad debt allowance, sales return, and refunds accruals.
• Prepare and distribute user-friendly financial reports on a monthly and ad-hoc basis.
• Lead and mentor the Association Office accounting team.
• Create and review GL account analysis and reconciliations for various accounts.
• Manage the Association's Fund, Reserve, and Endowment accounting.
• Prepare accurate and timely annual IRS forms and other Federal, State, and local government filings.
• Serve as the liaison for the independent annual audit process, and oversee its preparation.
• Maintain detailed and organized records of all Association contracts, leases, capital pledges, deeds, and other legal documents.
• Manage the Association's employee credit card program, ensuring user compliance with rules and issuing new cards as needed.
• Proficient in auditing practices and principles
• Demonstrable experience in budget processes
• Knowledge of federal government contracts (OMB specific)
• Expertise in fund accounting within the non-profit sector
• Experience with system implementation
• Proficiency in NetSuite software
• Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and handle multiple tasks
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA or relevant certification is highly desirable
• Previous experience in a similar role within the non-profit industry is preferred.
