MAU is hiring a Controller for our client in Greenville, SC. As a
Controller, you will supervise and facilitate preparing, completing, and maintaining financial statements, records, analyses, and reports.

Shift Information- Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Required Education and Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, or related field, or
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
Preferred Requirements- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Essential Functions- Supervise and participate in period and year-end closing, performing such work as preparing journal entries and audit work papers, coding and auditing invoices for payment, analyzing the general ledger, preparing and reviewing financial statements for monthly and annual financial reports, and arranging for an annual audit of company account
- Work directly with auditors of record during the audit process
- Receive, review, prepare, and/or submit financial analysis, payroll reports, inventory records and reports, general ledger, requisitions, bid documents, insurance documents, statements, claims, balance sheets, bond documents, agreements, schedules, registers, deposits, budget variance analyses, annual reports, memos, correspondence, etc.
- Analyze general ledger accounts for accuracy and variance with budget
- Prepare financial statements
- Maintain the chart of accounts
- Review accounts payable and sign on the check register before distribution
- Approve and code invoices and purchase orders as necessary
- Review cash management functions, including communicating with the bank, analyzing the daily cash report, approving wires, and directing staff to process wires, transfers, special deposits, etc.
- Compile the annual operating budget
- Prepare financial forecasts, expense details, and other reports to assist managers in the creation and management of divisional budgets as required
- Process insurance claims and communicate with customers, staff, and adjusters regarding status
- Track requirements for bond principal and interest payments and ensure that required payments are made on a timely basis
- Make recommendations to management for related changes in company policies and/or procedures
- Evaluate, monitor, and strengthen internal accounting controls to protect GW assets and to provide accurate, reliable, and consistent financial reports
- Ensure compliance with accepted accounting principles and policies
- Initiate and/or implement correction actions to strengthen controls, resolve discrepancies, and correct errors
- Supervise, direct, and evaluate assigned staff; coordinate, assign, and review work; maintain standards; coordinate activities and allocate personnel; monitor the status of work in progress; inspect completed work assignments; review the work for completeness and accuracy; select new employees; answer questions; offer training, advice, and assistance as needed
- Train accountants and clerks in proper accounting methods and procedures; train staff in the use of accounting software and hardware
- Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals such as Management, Commissioners, department heads and employees, auditors, vendors, consultants, customer insurance representatives, attorneys, financial institutions, various government agencies, and the public
- Ensure the security of the office and vault
- Perform other tasks as required
