Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead our accounting team and oversee all financial operations of the organization. This position will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing the budgeting process, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and driving financial strategies that support the company’s overall goals. Prior experience with construction billing and project cost accounting is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Manage all aspects of construction billing, including AIA billing, lien waivers, retainage, and project cost accounting.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
- Lead the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections, working closely with department heads and executive leadership.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide strategic recommendations to support business decisions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial records.
- Ensure accurate job cost tracking and reporting, working closely with project managers and the operations team to monitor project financials.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial stakeholders.
- Mentor and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
- Direct experience with construction billing and project cost accounting is required.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a focus on coaching and development.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
