The Jr. Staff Accountant is a hands-on role that reports to the Manager – Accounting Operations and will jump in and own the operational accounting activities, E.g., cash reconciliations, A/P, and other duties as assigned, for American Auto Shield and related companies. We are looking for a go-getter who is eager to learn “what right looks like” in a full-cycle accounting system and has a sound understanding of accounting principles.
What You Will Do in This Role
- Responsible for daily accounts payable functions including reconciling vendor statements, coding, and entering invoices, and monitoring the AP email inbox.
- Process voids and reissue requests for claims payments.
- Coding and verifying company credit card charges, and employee expense reports in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Assist vendors and employees seeking information regarding invoices, payments, etc.
- Prepare detailed general ledger account reconciliations.
- Assist Senior Accountant in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.
- Complete bank and credit card reconciliations for multiple entities.
- Enter and maintain journal entries in QuickBooks.
- Update and maintain vendor records in accounts payable system.
- Reconcile the AP Aging and research outstanding payables.
- Process seller commissions.
- Process annual 1099’s for multiple entities.
- Reconcile the uncashed check report and complete the escheatment process.
- Maintain timely and accurate electronic files of all documents consistent with the Company’s document retention policy.
- Work on special projects as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Need to Join Our Team
- Sound understanding of accounting principles, including amortization of prepaids and fixed assets.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English (written and verbal).
- Strong attention to detail and problem solving.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to understand complex business operations and related financial flow.
- Sound understanding of financial statements, journal entries and chart of accounts.
- Familiarity with intercompany transactions.
- Familiarity with processing annual 1099’s.
- Experience with accounting systems. Quick Books and Bill.Com experience is a plus.
- Experience with expense reporting platforms. Fyle experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with sales & use tax.
Required Education/Certifications
- Accounting degree or two years of suitable accounting experience preferred.
