We are looking for an Associate Counsel to join the Corporate Legal team. This role will provide legal advice and counsel to the trade association, its subsidiaries, and affiliates on a wide spectrum of topics including contracts, insurance, employment law, political advocacy, intellectual property, and general business matters. This role will also work with outside counsel on various litigation matters as needed. The Associate Counsel will also draft a high volume of contracts (including licensing, vendor, and partner agreements for one of C.A.R.’s subsidiaries), educational materials, and other materials.

Job Title: Associate Counsel
Reports To: Assistant General Counsel
Group: Corporate Legal
Compensation Range: $112,000 to $125,000 Annually
FLSA Status: Exempt
Responsibilities:
- Negotiate, draft and review a variety of contracts.
- Provide legal advice and counsel on a wide spectrum of topics including insurance, employment law, political advocacy, intellectual property, and general business matters (note that some of this will overlap with working on contracts).
- Keep abreast of legal developments affecting trade associations, including antitrust law, insurance, employment law, intellectual property, and other topics relevant to this role.
- Work with outside counsel on litigation matters.
- Legal research and memoranda as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
- J.D. from ABA-accredited law school
- Member of California State Bar
- 5+ years’ experience working in a law firm or comparable in-house experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with insurance matters, employment law, antitrust law, political matters, and/or intellectual property (copyright and trademark).
- Litigation experience.

- A collaborative, team-oriented attitude with superior interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances as needed.
- Driven and proactive, with a desire to learn and grow.
- Comfortable with technology (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Westlaw, internet research and use).
Travel
- Limited travel within California may be required.
