General Summary:
The marketing & communications assistant position requires a fundamental understanding of tactical marketing and communications skills. It includes supporting the Sr. Marketing Director, Marketing Communications Coordinator and Social Media Coordinator on projects relating to external and internal communications, marketing, and social media. Critical to success in this role are effective design skills, solid written and verbal communication skills, a willingness to learn and grow on the job. This is an entry-level position — it provides opportunity to gain experience through practical application, problem solving, and build skills through mentorship on the road to higher levels of responsibility and project management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Stakeholder Interface and Service
- Support management of Safer’s brand and visual identity:
- Help to execute Safer’s marketing strategy, including development of collateral, campaigns, and donor resources.
- Assist with logistics, preparation and tracking of events, meetings, and conferences.
- Monitor and update content for Safer website and other online properties, including social media vehicles.
- Support external and internal communications:
- Assist in public relations duties, including writing press releases and coordinating media requests.
- Assist with drafting, editing and/or proofreading materials for a variety of purposes (e.g. announcements, posters, letters, invitations, brochure copy, advertisements, web pages, press releases, etc.)
Tracking, Document, and Reporting
- Assist in email marketing initiatives and managing a contact relational database.
- Assist with taking photos of staff, providers, clients, events, etc.
- Assist with developing and utilizing graphic design for publications and presentations.
- Maintain records of performance outcomes and results
- Perform other duties and required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven experience as a marketing assistant.
- Event management experience is a plus, but not required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must work well as a member of a team.
- Strong grammar, writing, proofreading and copy-editing skills.
- Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects concurrently.
- Knowledge of social media marketing and analytics.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office, Photoshop, Google Analytics, Content Management Programs and Email Marketing Software (i.e. Constant Contact).
- Strong design skills using Adobe Software Indesign, Illustrator.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Multimedia skills to create in-house videos, online newsletters.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of related work experience, preferably in the non-profit sector.
