Job Summary
The Design Engineer will work within the project team to prepare detailed engineering construction plans, reports, and specifications for a range of single-family residential and light commercial projects as well as ancillary structures such as retaining walls, screen walls, and swimming pools. The Design Engineer will produce structural designs utilizing a variety of building materials including dimensional lumber, engineered wood products, rolled steel, light-gauge steel, CMU, masonry, and cast-in-place concrete. The Design Engineer will showcase their flexibility and creativity by being engaged across the project lifecycle; this includes preliminary engineering, design development, construction support, and project close.
Essential Functions
- Design various structural engineering-related projects including single-family residences, multi-family residences, commercial buildings, foundation systems, and/or ancillary structures using CAD modeling and various types of analysis software.
- Work with drawings, computer models, and verbal information supplied by the Client to develop a code-compliant and cost-effective structural design
- Prepare structural design calculations as necessary
- Review construction administration contract documents such as specifications, shop drawings, and as-built drawings.
- Coordinate with review agencies, clients, and/or sub-consultants for permit application, as required.
- Research regulatory requirements and design standards
- Notify management and clients if cost estimates are projected to exceed budget
- Work with Engineering Technicians for design assistance
- Interact with clients to ensure the client understands the proposed solution
- Maintain accurate design records
- Ensure compliance with building code
- Attend client project meetings, as required
- Assist in the resolution of complex technical design issues
Requirements
- 5-10 years of experience in single-family residential design
- 5-10 years of experience with 3-D design software preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with MS Office, MS Excel, AutoCAD, and other drafting software tools
- A desire and/or ability to work in teams to accomplish shared goals
- Self-motivated with the ability and desire to deliver excellent client service
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
