JOB HIGHLIGHTS:
- Candidate must be adaptable and flexible to a changing work flow - this is what this position entails!
- Candidate will work for Children's Medical Associates - a pediatric practice but from time to time may be required to work with adult patients at Horizon Medical Associates - an adult, primary care practice.
- Candidate must be registered or certified.
- The chosen candidate will receive a few weeks of training for the position.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Receive visitors or patients, ascertain their needs, and direct them accordingly.
- Answer phone in a cordial & professional manner and schedule appointments, screen patient calls to physician; handle all that do not require a physician.
- Prepare office computer, waiting room and patient bathroom each morning.
- Reschedule appointments as needed and monitor patient flow daily.
- Review sign-in sheet on a daily basis for changes in address, telephone number and update as needed..
- Take and record blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, etc.
- Escort patients to exam rooms.
- Meet with pharmaceutical company representatives and organize handling of medication samples.
- Perform lab work, draw blood and if necessary make appts for diagnostic tests to be performed off site; educate patients about procedure and necessary preparation for them.
- Help physician with examinations (rectal, breast, pelvic), diagnostic (EKGs), injectable meds and treatment procedures.
- Call patients to relay advice and instructions from physician.
- Maintain medication and medical supply inventory.
- Maintain medical equipment.
- Insure that instruments, supplies, and equipment are clean and ready.
- Properly dispose of contaminated and disposable items.
- Perform other tasks at the request of the physician and/or office manager.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Medical Assistant Certification
- 1-2 yrs of both front and back office experience preferred
- Must know how to draw blood and administer injectable meds
- Must have excellent writing and verbal skills
- Ability to be a team player and maintain professionalism with co-workers and patients
- Must create a comfortable, receptive environment for patients, acknowledging their complaints.
- Must be able to firmly but politely enforce the office policies.
- Must be adaptable and flexible to a changing work flow!
- MUST BE PUNCTUAL and respect time by giving early notice when your absence may affect the practice’s business.
- Must be receptive to constructive criticism
- Must be truthful and honest! The physician acting on your inaccurate info can result in patient harm/death.
- Must be proactive and have a sense of urgency
