Job Title: Commercial PipefitterJob DescriptionThis role focuses on installing, fabricating, assembling, maintaining, and repairing piping systems in commercial and industrial facilities as part of a project at a VA center. You will work from blueprints, specifications, and mechanical drawings to install systems such as chilled water, heating hot water, steam, condensate, compressed air, and process piping. The position requires strong technical pipefitting skills, a solid commitment to safety, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a field team.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, isometric drawings, and mechanical drawings to plan and execute pipefitting work accurately.
- Measure, cut, thread, groove, weld, and assemble various piping systems in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Install piping systems using carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, PVC, and other approved piping materials.
- Lay out and fabricate piping systems based on project plans, ensuring accurate routing and support of all piping runs.
- Install valves, pumps, boilers, chillers, heat exchangers, and other associated mechanical equipment as part of complete system installations.
- Perform pipefitting calculations, including offsets, elevations, centerlines, and takeoffs, to ensure proper fit and alignment.
- Verify dimensions and alignment of piping systems to maintain system integrity and adherence to design specifications.
- Conduct hydrostatic, pneumatic, and leak testing of piping systems to verify performance and identify any deficiencies.
- Troubleshoot installation issues and coordinate solutions with field supervision and other project personnel.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and rigging equipment safely and effectively to complete assigned tasks.
- Maintain compliance with company, customer, OSHA, and site-specific safety standards at all times.
- Collaborate with project managers, foremen, subcontractors, and other trades to support on-time and successful project completion.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout all phases of the project.
Essential Skills- At least 3+ years of pipefitting experience in commercial or industrial environments.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, isometric drawings, and mechanical drawings.
- Hands-on experience with steam fitting and installation of steam systems.
- Experience working with chilled water systems, condensate return systems, and steam systems.
- Ability to understand and apply elevations, offsets, and dimensions in layout and installation work.
- Ability to calculate offsets and centerlines accurately for complex piping runs.
- Experience with installation and assembly of piping systems, including threading, grooving, and welding.
- Brazing and welding experience applicable to piping and mechanical systems.
- Strong math skills to support measurements, calculations, and layout work.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical specifications and project documents.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety practices related to construction, industrial piping, and mechanical installations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience working on commercial or industrial construction projects involving complex piping systems.
- Familiarity with chilled water, steam, and condensate return systems in institutional or facility settings.
- Comfort using a variety of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and rigging equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve installation issues in the field.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines.
- Attention to detail in verifying dimensions, alignment, and system integrity.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with project managers, foremen, subcontractors, and other trades.
