Job Title: Machine OperatorJob DescriptionJoin a highly skilled manufacturing team as a Machine Operator responsible for running precision mill equipment that forms metal tubing used across a wide range of industries. You will operate, adjust, and maintain mill machines, support quality production, and perform basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting in a safe and collaborative environment.
Responsibilities- Operate mill machines that bend metal into pipe and tubing, ensuring consistent, high-quality output.
- Change out metal rolls on the mill machine at regular intervals, typically every 2 to 12 hours, following established procedures.
- Perform routine quality checks on parts and adjust machine settings to maintain specifications and product standards.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues on the mill equipment and determine when to escalate major electrical problems to maintenance or electricians.
- Apply basic knowledge of 3-phase, 480-volt systems to recognize and communicate electrical issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Perform minor mechanical repairs and adjustments on the machine to minimize downtime and maintain efficient production.
- Carry out basic preventative maintenance tasks on the mill machine, including cleaning, inspection, and minor servicing.
- Perform simple tack welds to connect metal strips as part of the production process, using training provided on site.
- Use measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet required tolerances.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively during setup, adjustments, and maintenance activities.
- Document issues, communicate equipment concerns, and collaborate with team members and supervisors to maintain smooth operations.
- Follow all safety procedures, housekeeping standards, and company policies to maintain a safe and organized work area.
- Continuously monitor equipment performance, think critically about potential issues, and propose improvements or solutions.
- Participate in training and cross-training to build skills in machining, maintenance, and fabrication as needed.
Essential Skills- At least 2 years of experience troubleshooting and running machinery in a production, machining, maintenance, mechanic, or fabrication environment.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on production or industrial machines.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and think critically to diagnose problems.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems, including exposure to 3-phase, 480-volt equipment sufficient to recognize when to involve qualified electrical personnel.
- Ability to perform minor mechanical repairs and adjustments on equipment.
- Comfort using measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to verify dimensions and tolerances.
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools in an industrial or fabrication setting.
- Ability to perform basic welding tasks such as tack welding after training.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think outside the box and adapt to changing conditions.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a rotating or fixed schedule as assigned.
- Willingness to complete 3 to 6 months of training to become fully proficient in operating the mill equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Background in machining, maintenance, mechanical repair, or fabrication.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment involving metalworking, tubing, or similar processes.
- Familiarity with troubleshooting both mechanical and basic electrical issues on production equipment.
- Experience with welding or fabrication, even at a basic level, is beneficial but not required, as training is provided.
- Comfort working with industrial equipment and following detailed operating procedures.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with supervisors, maintenance, and teammates.
- Demonstrated reliability and consistent attendance in previous roles.
