Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
The Human Resources Generalist supports a manufacturing plant in Ashland City, TN by delivering comprehensive HR services across the employee lifecycle. This role focuses on onboarding, administering HR policies and procedures, handling employee relations, supporting performance appraisal processes, and managing benefits and leave programs. The HR Generalist also contributes to workforce planning and employee engagement initiatives, promotes a positive workplace culture, and ensures compliance with labor laws and HR policies. This position provides day-to-day HR support to both employees and leadership and reports to the Plant HR Manager.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day HR services and support to managers and employees to ensure effective human resource management across the plant.
- Conduct training sessions on HR policies, procedures, and programs to support employee understanding and compliance.
- Investigate informal and formal employee complaints, document findings, and support fair and consistent resolution of employee relations issues.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records while implementing strong data privacy and security processes.
- Serve as the first point of contact for HR inquiries related to benefits programs, policies, performance management, employee grievances, and HR processes.
- Support performance management activities, including coaching managers on processes and helping facilitate performance appraisals.
- Assist with business event implementation, workforce balancing, and new employee orientation to ensure smooth integration of new hires.
- Respond to employee and management questions about HR policies, processes, and procedures, using established guidelines and prescribed responses.
- Implement and maintain departmental procedures, EEO/AA logs and reports, and personnel records to ensure regulatory and policy compliance.
- Provide general administrative support for daily HR departmental operations and training programs.
- Process and track leave-related information, including Leave of Absence, FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, and other leave issues, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance.
- Oversee the maintenance and retention of personnel files and records in accordance with record retention requirements.
- Lead and support employee retention and engagement initiatives to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
- Participate in confidential investigations of complex employee relations issues as needed, ensuring professionalism and discretion.
- Prepare documentation for and represent the organization at unemployment hearings when required.
- Support fast-paced, high-volume HR operations in a plant environment, including employee relations, onboarding, policy communication, and compliance activities.
- Be visible and accessible on the plant floor and support multiple shifts as needed to address HR needs across the operation.
- Perform other HR-related duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in supporting overall plant operations.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 2 years of experience working in an HR environment with a strong understanding of human resource practices.
- 2+ years of hands-on HR Generalist experience supporting day-to-day HR operations.
- Experience supporting fast-paced, high-volume HR operations, ideally in a manufacturing, plant, or operational environment.
- Demonstrated experience with employee relations, including handling employee concerns, documentation, and informal and formal investigations.
- Experience with leave administration, including FMLA, Leave of Absence, and Workers’ Compensation processes.
- Strong HR compliance knowledge, including working knowledge of employment laws, HR policies, record retention requirements, EEO/AA reporting, and personnel file management.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and ensure the accuracy and completeness of HR records.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems, with familiarity with UltiPro or a similar HR management system.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and familiarity with Power BI.
- Excellent communication skills, including clear written communication, strong proofreading abilities, and effective presentation skills.
