Job Title: Construction InspectorJob DescriptionThe Construction Inspector provides on-site observation of construction projects, ensuring work complies with engineering plans, specifications, and schedules. This role coordinates closely with the engineering design team on project documentation, including construction submittals, requests for information (RFIs), change order requests, and construction schedules. The position requires strong technical understanding of construction practices and effective communication with project stakeholders in both field and office environments.
Responsibilities- Provide continuous on-site observation of construction projects to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, and drawings.
- Review and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and drawings, and compare them to construction work in progress.
- Coordinate with the engineering design team regarding construction submittals, RFIs, change order requests, and construction schedules.
- Document site conditions, construction progress, and any deviations from plans, specifications, or schedules.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders to address issues and clarify requirements.
- Monitor construction practices, techniques, materials, and equipment used on site for conformance with project requirements.
- Support the administration of construction contracts by providing accurate and timely field information.
- Exhibit initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership in resolving field issues and supporting project objectives.
- Travel to active construction and project sites as needed to meet the requirements of the position.
- Work both independently and as part of a team to ensure projects are observed and documented thoroughly and accurately.
Essential Skills- Minimum of 4 years of experience in public works construction inspection or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience in general construction and construction inspection.
- Strong knowledge of construction practices, techniques, materials, and equipment.
- Knowledge of engineering plans, specifications, and drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and drawings and compare them with construction in progress.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership in a construction environment.
- Basic computer skills, including working in a general Microsoft Windows environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft products (such as Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Ability to travel as necessary to various construction and project sites.
- Reliable and dependable mode of transportation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience with water and wastewater infrastructure projects is preferred.
- ACI certification is preferred.
- Experience using Bluebeam for reviewing plans and documents.
- Strong general software knowledge relevant to construction documentation and communication.
- Ability to manage RFIs, construction submittals, change order requests, and construction schedules.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
Work EnvironmentThe role is primarily based at active construction sites and construction offices, including potentially remote locations. The Construction Inspector works in field conditions where noise levels may reach up to 90 dB and temperatures may range from approximately 32°ree;F to 100°ree;F. The position involves regular travel to project sites and requires working outdoors as well as indoors in site offices. Training and appropriate personal protective equipment are provided to help mitigate exposure to elevated noise and extreme temperatures, supporting a safe and professional work environment.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
