Job Description
The Maintenance Manager oversees all maintenance activities to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a custom injection molding facility. This role leads a maintenance team responsible for the upkeep of buildings, grounds, machinery, and tooling, while also working hands-on as a maintenance mechanic to repair and maintain production equipment such as injection molding presses, press robots, grinders, and related fabrication equipment. The Maintenance Manager plans and manages projects, implements preventive maintenance programs, and collaborates with cross-functional groups to support continuous improvement and high-quality production.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop the maintenance team to achieve organizational objectives and support safe, efficient facility operations.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and evaluate maintenance employees while fostering growth opportunities and employee engagement.
- Assign work, set priorities, and schedule maintenance activities to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Collaborate with HR on personnel changes and issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Promote a collaborative work environment and encourage teamwork with cross-functional departments across the facility.
- Oversee maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment, including injection molding presses, press robots, grinders, and associated fabrication equipment.
- Perform and supervise routine checks on equipment, document equipment status, and complete necessary reports using CMMS software.
- Create, implement, and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) program for manufacturing and building equipment.
- Maintain the function and reliability of facility systems and associated equipment by operating and testing systems; restoring, repairing, rebuilding, or replacing faulty or inoperative components and parts.
- Manage maintenance projects and tasks involving extrusion equipment, plastics processing, and related machinery.
- Collaborate with cross-functional groups in areas such as hydraulics, mechanical systems, injection molding, extrusion, and safety to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Interpret and read blueprints to guide maintenance work and equipment repairs.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues using mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, robotics, and automation knowledge to minimize downtime.
- Act as an advocate for safety, health, and environmental practices, ensuring compliance with facility standards and regulations.
- Drive continuous improvement in maintenance processes through lean manufacturing principles, process analysis, and strategic planning.
- Provide technical leadership in electronics troubleshooting, PLCs, CNC equipment, and automation systems as needed.
- Monitor and report on maintenance performance, equipment reliability, and PM adherence to support operational decision-making.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of supervisory or management experience in maintenance or related fields preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong experience in troubleshooting and mechanical repair of industrial equipment.
- Knowledge of industrial electricity, pneumatics, hydraulics, robotics, and automation.
- Experience working with injection molding presses, press robots, grinders, extrusion equipment, and associated fabrication machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints for equipment and facility systems.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and managing preventive maintenance programs, including PM schedules for manufacturing and building equipment.
- Proficiency in using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software to document work, track equipment status, and generate reports.
- Demonstrated advocacy for safety, health, and environmental issues in an industrial setting.
- Proven people management skills, including coaching, performance management, and team development.
- Experience with change management and process improvement within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical skills and strategic planning capabilities related to maintenance operations.
- Knowledge of electronics troubleshooting and technical leadership in maintenance activities.
