Job Title: Registered Pharmacy TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Registered Pharmacy Technician provides high-quality support to patients and caregivers by handling inbound and outbound calls, processing prescriptions, and coordinating pharmacy services in a fast-paced clinic pharmacy. This role focuses on delivering exceptional customer service, accurately entering and maintaining patient and prescription data, coordinating insurance and prior authorizations, and ensuring timely delivery of medications. The technician supports pharmacological services, serves as a first point of contact for service-related inquiries, and helps ensure compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
Responsibilities- Respond to inbound and outbound calls from patients, caregivers, referral sources, and other healthcare providers while maintaining a high level of customer service and productivity.
- Provide direct in-person and phone-based customer interaction to answer and resolve a wide variety of inquiries related to pharmacy services, prescription status, and delivery.
- Answer questions related to pharmacy services, delivery inquiries, refill requests, and pharmacy assistance calls in a clear and professional manner.
- Receive and process new pharmacy referrals, including verifying patient and prescriber information and ensuring all required documentation is complete.
- Verify insurance coverage for prescriptions, including benefits, copays, and coverage limitations, and communicate findings to patients as needed.
- Facilitate prior authorization requests by gathering necessary information, submitting documentation, and following up with payers and providers.
- Accurately transcribe prescriptions into the pharmacy system, ensuring correct medication, dosage, directions, and patient information.
- Generate and review reports that follow the cycle fill calendar to identify upcoming refills and coordinate refill requests via e-prescribing, facsimile, or phone.
- Coordinate medication delivery by scheduling shipments, confirming addresses, and ensuring timely receipt of goods and services.
- Serve as the first point of contact for service-related inquiries, addressing issues such as delays, delivery problems, and general service questions.
- Support pharmacological services by editing and verifying fill lists, including insurance information, last fill dates, billing details, and toting requirements.
- Align (short fill) patients’ medications according to the cycle fill calendar to synchronize refill dates and improve adherence.
- Update patient information in the pharmacy system as needed, including demographic changes, insurance updates, and contact details.
- Coordinate the initiation of care with patients or caregivers, referral sources, and other providers of care to ensure a smooth start of therapy.
- Enter patient information into the patient record accurately and completely, maintaining thorough and up-to-date documentation.
- Maintain all patient records in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations and internal policies.
- Assist with labeling, inventory management, and fulfillment activities to ensure accurate preparation and dispensing of medications.
- Help resolve customer complaints by investigating issues, providing appropriate solutions, and following up to ensure satisfaction.
- Collaborate with pharmacists and other technicians to manage a high prescription volume and meet daily workflow and quality standards.
- Use Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Access, to support reporting, tracking, and operational tasks.
- Adhere to established procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements in all aspects of pharmacy operations.
- Report directly to the Pharmacy Manager and, in their absence, to the Director of Operations, following guidance and feedback to improve performance.
Essential Skills- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of a board-approved pharmacy technician training program.
- At least 1 year of experience in a medical insurance, billing, or customer service environment.
- Valid Florida Pharmacy Technician License.
- Strong knowledge of medication brands, generics, and dosing, including day supply calculations.
- Proficiency in pharmacy operations such as order entry, labeling, fulfillment, inventory, and prior authorization support.
- Advanced skill in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel and Access.
- Strong commitment to customer service and patient care.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle high call volumes and manage both inbound and outbound calls professionally.
