Job Title: Facilities Engineer
Job Description
The Facilities Engineer plans, designs, and oversees the reconfiguration, maintenance, and modification of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities. This role leads projects from concept through implementation, ensuring that facility assets support operational needs, comply with company and government requirements, and meet cost, schedule, and quality objectives. The position operates with a high degree of autonomy, using advanced technical knowledge and project management skills to improve facility performance and reliability within a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and oversee the reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities.
- Gather and review data on facility and equipment specifications, company and government restrictions, required completion dates, and construction feasibility to develop effective solutions.
- Coordinate with architecture and engineering firms to develop design criteria and prepare detailed layout and construction drawings.
- Prepare bid sheets, scopes of work, and contracts for construction projects and facilities acquisition activities.
- Review and estimate design and project costs, including equipment, installation, labor, materials, site preparation, and other related expenses.
- Inspect, or direct the inspection of, construction and installation progress to ensure conformance with approved drawings, specifications, standards, and schedules.
- Deliver and manage assigned projects from design through implementation, ensuring adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and technical standards.
- Identify and implement improvements to facility processes, systems, and equipment to enhance safety, reliability, performance, and efficiency.
- Provide in-depth analysis of facility-related issues and recommend process or design improvements to stakeholders.
- Collaborate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including long time customers and vendors, to align on project requirements and objectives.
- Communicate project status, risks, issues, and recommendations clearly to higher level internal and external stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
- Coach, guide, and provide technical support to lower-level professionals and other team members within the facilities function.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional project teams, including delegating tasks and reviewing the work products of others when managing projects.
- Ensure that all facilities projects and maintenance activities comply with applicable regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
- Support ongoing equipment maintenance strategies within manufacturing facilities to maximize uptime and extend asset life.
Essential Skills
- Advanced knowledge of facilities engineering, including planning, design, and oversight of equipment, machinery, buildings, and structures.
- Demonstrated experience in equipment maintenance within a facilities or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to gather, interpret, and apply technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and construction feasibility data.
- Proficiency in coordinating with architecture and engineering firms to develop design criteria and detailed layout drawings.
- Experience preparing bid documents and contracts for construction and facility acquisition projects.
- Strong skills in estimating design and project costs, including equipment, installation, labor, materials, and preparation.
- Experience inspecting construction and installation work to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Capability to work independently with limited supervision and determine appropriate approaches to complex technical problems.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide in-depth analysis and recommendations for process and system improvements.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with higher level internal and external customers and vendors, including presenting facts, statuses, and recommendations.
- Ability to build relationships and reach consensus across stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- Experience providing guidance, coaching, or training to other employees within a technical or engineering job area.
- Practical knowledge of project management principles and methods.
- University degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience with a university degree, or a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with an advance
