We are expanding, and we're looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to lead the development of our Geotechnical Services Department. This is a unique opportunity for an engineer who enjoys technical challenges, values strong client relationships, and wants to play a meaningful role in building something from the ground up. You'll oversee geotechnical investigations and engineering analyses while partnering with company leadership to establish the systems, standards, and long-term vision for our Geotechnical Services Department. You'll have the opportunity to influence technical standards, mentor staff, strengthen client partnerships, and help grow a department that will become an integral part of our multidisciplinary environmental consulting and engineering firm.

Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Lead subsurface investigations including soil borings, test pits, and groundwater evaluations.
Perform geotechnical analyses including bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, retaining structures, pavement evaluations, and foundation recommendations.
Prepare high-quality engineering reports, recommendations, and technical documentation.
Coordinate drilling subcontractors, field technicians, and testing activities.
Collaborate closely with environmental scientists, engineers, geologists, and permitting specialists to deliver integrated solutions.
Ensure projects meet quality, safety, budget, and schedule expectations.
Department Growth & Leadership
Help establish and grow company Geotechnical Services Department.
Develop standard operating procedures, QA/QC standards, and technical best practices.
Assist with equipment planning, staffing strategies, and department growth initiatives.
Mentor junior engineers and field staff.
Support business development, proposal preparation, and client presentations.
Build lasting relationships with clients by serving as a trusted technical advisor.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
Environmental Consulting: 7 years (Required)
North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Engineer In Training (Preferred)
Seven or more years of geotechnical engineering experience.
Demonstrated experience managing projects and serving as a primary client contact.
Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and geotechnical investigations.
Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
Entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in helping build and grow a successful service line.
Ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment.
