Job Title: MachinistJob DescriptionThis Machinist role focuses on setting up, programming, and operating CNC and other types of machines to produce high-quality parts while maintaining strict quality, safety, and documentation standards. You will work with a variety of CNC equipment, perform routine preventive maintenance, and support continuous production across multiple shifts in a modern manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities- Set up, program, and operate CNC machines and other machining equipment, including mills and lathes, to produce precision components according to specifications.
- Use conversational programming as well as G-code and M-code to program mills and lathes, including establishing zero and reference points, setting tool registers and offsets, applying tool compensation, and configuring conditional switches.
- Calculate machining requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry to ensure accurate and efficient machining processes.
- Install and adjust three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers on mills and lathes.
- Indicate and secure vises and other workholding devices, and perform tramming and alignment to ensure proper setup and accuracy.
- Load and adjust bar feeder systems to support continuous and efficient production runs.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering plans, material documents, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, and machining parameters, including geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Verify machine settings and part quality by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces, making adjustments as needed to maintain specifications.
- Monitor drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, and thread chasing operations to ensure parts meet dimensional and surface finish requirements.
- Detect malfunctions and troubleshoot machining processes, including adjusting and reprogramming controls and replacing worn tools as necessary.
- Adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes to maintain consistent product quality and compliance with specifications.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on machines and equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, and coordinate repairs when needed.
- Maintain continuity between work shifts by documenting actions, irregularities, and ongoing operational needs, and by communicating issues to the appropriate team lead or supervisor.
- Complete and maintain accurate operational documentation, including production records and quality logs.
- Keep the work area and department clean, organized, and free from hazards to support efficient and safe operations.
- Follow all relevant safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations, and promptly report or flag any equipment or safety issues to the appropriate team lead, supervisor, maintenance, or EHS personnel.
- Participate in training and skill development activities during the initial training period and as new equipment or processes are introduced.
Essential Skills- Proven ability to set up, program, and operate CNC mills and lathes in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with horizontal mills and multi-axis CNC mills, including 5-axis machining.
- Proficiency in conversational programming for CNC equipment.
- Strong knowledge of G-code and M-code programming for mills and lathes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering plans, material documents, specifications, orthographic drawings, and reference planes.
- Experience interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) and applying them to machining operations.
- Skill in setting zero and reference points, tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches on CNC machines.
- Ability to calculate machining requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Experience installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers.
- Competence in indicating and aligning vises and workholding devices and tramming equipment to ensure accurate setups.
- Ability to load and adjust bar feeder systems to support production.
- Experience verifying machine settings and part quality through measurement of first-run and sample workpieces.
- Proficiency in monitoring and adjusting drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, and thread chasing operations.
- Ability to detect malfunctions, troubleshoot machining processes, adjust and reprogram controls, and replace worn tools.
- Familiarity with and adherence to quality assurance procedures and processes.
