Job Title: Quality Control Technician
Job Description
The Quality Control Technician ensures that food products consistently meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards through thorough inspections, testing, and documentation. This role performs pre-operational inspections, conducts X-ray and metal detector testing, verifies packaging integrity and labeling accuracy, and documents all quality checks in accordance with established procedures. The technician supports a transparent, growth-oriented environment and contributes directly to maintaining high standards in a fast-paced food manufacturing facility.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre-operational inspections on production lines to verify that equipment and work areas meet quality and safety requirements before use.
- Conduct X-ray testing on products to identify and prevent foreign materials from entering finished goods.
- Operate and monitor metal detectors to ensure they function correctly and detect foreign objects in products.
- Carry out routine quality checks throughout the production process to verify compliance with specifications and standards.
- Complete accurate and timely quality documentation, including inspection records, test results, and any nonconformance reports.
- Inspect boxes and packaging for correct dimensions and structural integrity to ensure products are properly protected and compliant with requirements.
- Verify that ingredient codes on labels match the product and ensure all labeling information is accurate and complete.
- Perform seal checks to confirm packaging is properly sealed and maintains product integrity and safety.
- Check product specifications such as best-by dates and other critical label and product information to ensure compliance.
- Inspect products for foreign materials and take immediate action if any contamination risk is identified.
- Place product or production lines on hold when necessary to address quality or safety concerns, and communicate issues to appropriate personnel.
- Support internal inspections and audits by providing documentation, test results, and observations as needed.
- Apply good manufacturing practices (GMP) during all activities and promote a strong food safety culture on the production floor.
- Work closely with production, maintenance, and supervisory staff to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Manage time effectively to balance office-based documentation work with on-floor inspections and testing.
- Maintain high standards of integrity, honesty, accountability, and attention to detail in all quality control activities.
- Communicate clearly with team members, leads, and supervisors regarding findings, concerns, and improvement ideas.
- Adapt to a structured training process and quickly learn procedures, equipment, and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Scientific Discipline
- OR Highschool Diploma/Associate degree with Quality Control Experience in the Food Industry
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manteno, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
