Job Title: Manufacturing EngineerJob DescriptionThe Manufacturing Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for optimizing and maintaining manufacturing processes, including stamping, degreasing, anodizing, injection molding, assembly, decorating, metalizing, waste treatment, and facility systems. The position emphasizes safety, operational excellence, quality, cost control, continuous improvement, and equipment reliability, requiring significant time on the plant floor.
Responsibilities- Resolve day-to-day production issues that may impede the ability to ship quality products, addressing multi-disciplinary issues such as process, chemical, mechanical, and/or electrical challenges.
- Provide technical assistance to all manufacturing departments regarding the quality and performance of machinery, tooling, fixtures, gauges, etc.
- Serve as a liaison between production and engineering departments by developing and managing engineering change notices and process specifications related to manufacturing processes and material specifications.
- Maintain a safe workplace, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.
- Identify and implement manufacturing process changes in support of the plant's continuous improvement and productivity objectives.
- Assist with engineering analyses, including manufacturing simulations of new processes, make or buy decisions, outsourcing, and line balancing.
- Review project work from maintenance, automation/autoload technicians, and external contractors, ensuring successful acceptance of projects to production.
- Review and sustain the Total Preventative Maintenance Program (TPM), coordinating with cross-functional teams to keep TPM up to date.
- Conduct root cause analyses to determine causes of line defects and engage the appropriate organization to drive improvement in line yields.
- Support and execute Lean Manufacturing efforts, including developing SOP, TWI, standard work for machine and process controls, RIE actions, and 5S methodologies.
- Manage and update site drawings, layouts, P&IDs, and process flow diagrams.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Skills- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience (engineering preferred).
- 5 to 10 years of experience with responsibility for manufacturing process support in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with technical issues, determining root cause, and implementing timely solutions.
- Proficiency with machine automation and electrical troubleshooting.
- Experience working in a high-volume 24/7 manufacturing environment, with metal finishing experience preferred.
- Skilled in cross-group collaboration, negotiation, and simplifying requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in lean problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Proficient in SolidWorks and/or AutoCad.
- Exposure to PLC programming for troubleshooting and repairs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- 1–3 years in equipment reliability (maintenance or reliability engineering).
- Willingness to travel up to 20%.
- Certification in problem-solving (Lean Six Sigma, Red X).
- Experience in developing and implementing PFMEA/FMEA plans is highly valued.
Work EnvironmentThe role involves 40 percent desk work and 60 percent on the floor. This plant is a primary anodizing plant utilizing chemical processing for production and wastewater treatment. Most processes involve chemical processing, fluid pumps, piping, chemical storage, mechanical conveyance, and PLC, robot, or relay logic controls. High consideration will be given to candidates with experience in these areas.
