Job Title: Controls InstallerJob DescriptionThe Controls Installer works on-site under the direction of a site superintendent and in close collaboration with a professional project team. This role focuses on installing low-voltage building automation and HVAC control systems in commercial facilities, with a strong emphasis on work performed at military installations. The position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety to ensure efficient, reliable, and high-quality installation of complex building automation systems across multiple locations.
Responsibilities- Install low-voltage building automation and HVAC control systems in commercial facilities, primarily on military installations.
- Travel full-time to multiple states to perform work at various project sites, including military bases.
- Install conduit up to 1" EMT and rigid, ensuring neat, code-compliant, and safe routing.
- Install low-voltage cabling and sensors for building automation and HVAC control systems.
- Install low-voltage control panels and associated control equipment according to project specifications and drawings.
- Perform wiring and termination of low-voltage control panels and related devices, ensuring proper labeling, organization, and functionality.
- Read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints to execute accurate and efficient installations.
- Coordinate daily activities with the site superintendent and project team to meet project schedules and quality standards.
- Follow all safety procedures and site-specific requirements while working on military bases and commercial facilities.
- Support commissioning activities by ensuring installations are complete, tested, and ready for system start-up.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other trades to resolve installation issues and maintain project progress.
Essential Skills- Minimum 1–3 years of experience installing conduit and wire in a commercial environment.
- Proven experience with conduit installation up to 1" EMT and rigid.
- Hands-on experience installing low-voltage cabling, sensors, and control panels.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical blueprints.
- Willingness and ability to travel full-time to multiple states and work at various military installations.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass and maintain a clean background check.
- Knowledge of commercial building automation and HVAC control systems.
- Strong understanding of commercial control systems, facilities management systems, and energy management practices.
- Ability to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Effective interpersonal skills to represent the organization in a professional and ethical manner.
- Leadership skills to support and guide technicians working on complex building automation equipment.
- PC proficiency and ability to work with facility automation controls-related software.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Journeyman electrician or similar trade background plus three years of industry experience, or ten-plus years of experience servicing mechanical equipment control systems in the HVAC industry.
- Experience installing commercial building automation and HVAC controls systems.
- Exposure to or experience with Siemens controls, building automation systems (BAS/BMS), HVAC control, and automation systems.
- Experience with VRF systems, VAV systems, and HVAC electrical installations.
- background in start-up and commissioning of HVAC and building automation systems.
- OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 certification.
- Systems integration and development experience on Niagara / Tridium-based systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with facilities management systems, energy management practices, and site preparation for controls installations.
- Experience with peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques.
- AutoCAD or similar drafting software experience is a plus.
- Ability to program facility automation controls software or willingness to develop this capability.
- Interest in obtaining certification in Niagara AX.
