Salary: $47,500 - $55,000 | Based on licensure level, plus free on-site housing available

A leading nonprofit residential youth services organization in the Texas Panhandle is seeking a Counselor to join its dedicated clinical team. In this role, you'll provide individual therapy, clinical assessments, and crisis intervention for children and teens ages 5–18 — all within a structured, Monday–Friday schedule that's rare in behavioral health.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Services
- Conduct individual therapy sessions, mental health assessments, suicide assessments, and risk assessments using a strengths-based approach
- Make clinical diagnoses and develop treatment recommendations, including psychotropic medication management and goal-setting
- Design, facilitate, and evaluate therapeutic and psychoeducational group sessions
- Provide clinical support for Adventure Programs and experiential learning activities, including Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
Collaboration & Coordination
- Collaborate with campus staff to assess residents and refer for external services, medication reviews, and treatment planning
- Participate in Intensive Team Meetings to develop team-centered approaches for residents in need
- Provide clinical training to campus staff on issues affecting children in residential care
- Attend client team meetings and convey clinically relevant recommendations as needed
Crisis & Safety
- Provide crisis intervention using approved verbal and physical techniques
- Assess and report incidents of abuse or potential abuse to appropriate supervisors
- Maintain a safe, organized, and therapeutic environment at all times
Compliance & Documentation
- Generate reports, correspondence, and documentation in accordance with licensing and accreditation requirements
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable regulatory standards
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) processes
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Master's degree required — Social Work, Counseling, Child Psychology, Human Services Administration, or related field
- Must hold or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire a license from: Texas State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCA/LPC), Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners (LSW/LMSW), Texas State Board of Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Texas State Board of Psychologists, or equivalent licensure body
- Experience in equine-assisted or other experiential therapies a plus
Background
- Experience in chemical dependency, juvenile justice, residential youth care, inpatient psychiatric, or institutional settings preferred
- Candidates transitioning from private practice should note this role operates within a structured institutional environment (Monday–Friday, onsite, team-based)
Skills & Requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Exceptional time management and attention to detail
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Valid Texas driver's license required
- Ability to bend, lift, push/pull, and perform extended sitting/standing
- Availability for occasional travel as needed
- Must pass a background check prior to start
- Must be local to the Amarillo/Texas Panhandle area or willing to permanently relocate (position is located approximately 45 minutes from Amarillo) Free on-campus housing is available (see Benefits below); on-campus living is optional, not required.
